Manufactured in France, this heavyweight, textured paper is ideal for acrylic paint and wet techniques. When acrylics are used as a thick paste, characteristics similar to oil paint can be achieved on this paper. When diluted to a wash, the gelatin-sized paper features qualities of a cold pressed watercolor paper. 185 lbs (400 gsm).

Great for watercolor

I started using this paper for my watercolors as well as pen and ink with watercolor washes. I love the fact that it doesn't buckle and my brushes glide across the paper. When it comes to wet on wet, it does require a bit more water since the paper is very absorbent.

If you're doing multi-media and need a substrate that is relatively inexpensive and yet sturdy, this is your go-to item. The website has had it listed incorrectly for some time now. The Montval is a 185 lbs. This is the heaviest "paper" I've found.

Since discovering this paper I have used no other with my acrylic painting. The weight is good enough that even if I am practicing and use a whole sheet, I can re-cover the sheet with a background and use it for a project without wasting that piece of paper. Also, I use a lot of water and this holds up nicely.

This is a wonderful product. Before using it I put one coat of gesso on each side. It works well for both quick studies and for finished paintings. It has a slightly textured surface and is thick enough that it doesn't buckle. Great stuff !!!
