Welcome to dickblick
These brushes are made of pure, fine blue squirrel hair for maximum color capacity.
The hairs of the round brush are blended with select A-grade goat hair to produce a brush that offers a new level of performance and value. The combination allows for more spring than pure squirrel. It still has a great range of flexibility, but returns to its point more readily.

Comments about Blick Studio Natural Squirrel Brushes:
Very happy with the purchase of this set of brushes. Love that they keep the point and hold lots of water or wash.It is actually my first attempt to use natural brushes and already am happy with the results. It is a pleasure to use them. Now is only to work on my skills :)

I have these and I also have Silver Black Velvet brushes. The Black Velvet brushes are hands down better quality for both ink and watercolor. I'm now using the Blick brushes for ink exclusively. Both sets of brushes hold a lot of paint and i see nearly no difference in that department. A finer brush will point with all the hairs while this brush has scragglers. I'll try trimming the most wild hairs to see if that fixes this minor issue. I still am glad I bought these brushes to compare and contrast with other squirrel hair brushes. I still look at these brushes as a valuable tool in my art supply collection.

My favorite brushes
By Sue the glass painter
from Ionia, MI
I work mostly with glass paint. When I first started, I really didn't know what would work best so I tried several different brushes. The natural squirrel brushes are by far my favorite. They can hold a lot of paint and yet distribute it evenly on the surface.
Flat Wash 1 inch
from Kent, WA
This brush is tiny. The head/brush is barely one inch wide, but the handle is very short. The brush head itself might be wide enough to work ok as a flat wash brush, but the handle is so short that it doesn't seem comfortable to hold for me.. If you are a smaller person or have small hands it might feel ok.. .. For such a small brush it seems a bit over-priced.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Don't spring back
By Gail the surffer
from Mays Landing, NJ
I cannot use these brushes for watercolors. They come to a point but when you try to paint with them they do not spring back. It was impossible for me to paint with them.
Merchant response: Squirrel hair has great carrying capacity for thin watercolors and inks. It is used in both lettering and washes. A very fine, thin hair, taken from squirrel tails, it points as well as Kolinsky, but has very little of a sable brushes "snap". The purpose of the brush is to use it for washes and other applications where you need a lot of color to go a long way.If you ever have specific questions regarding our products or how to use them, please contact our Product information department at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling (800) 933-2542.
