I ordered these pencils based on reviews because I have noticed over the last two years or so that Prismacolor pencils break easily and are no longer the same quality they have been in the past. The Blick pencils are fine but much to my dismay when the boxes of 12 came there was no white color pencil!! In my opinion this is a grave error in judgment on the part of Blick as I find white to be an essential color for mixing colors when teaching students how to blend and build layers.

As a beginner in colored pencil drawing I needed to expand my color range. After reading reviews on all of the brands of pencils I decided on the Blick Studio Artists Colored Pencils, and was very happy with the quality and color range. My granddaughter wants a set now.

I am teaching a colored pencil course and so I explored ways to get my students a good quality colored pencil set at a reasonable cost. I checked this and another art supply "store" brand and also matched them against Derwent Coloursoft and Prismacolor. Blick's pencils were excellent and by far better than the other store brand. They are rich in pigment and have a soft, creamy quality like Coloursoft. I could get no sense that they were at all inferior to the prestige brands. So I did order these for my students who have been working with them now for 7 weeks and loving them. These are great pencils and a terrific buy. Thank you Dick Blick.

The portait colored pencil set is well defined by the number of pencils in the set and the variety which allows for completion of just about any portrait project from child to adult. The price allows for a modest addition to any artist's inventory. I'd certainly recommend the product and have done so to my students.

Internet availability made the purchase convenient which arrived in just a few days, in excellent condition. I was not able to purchase this set in the Dick Blick store where I shop twice a month so it was essential to order on the internet. I am very pleased and recommend others to add this set to their collection.

It was a gift to our 8 year old and our 5 yr old daughter also uses them all the time. They have been taking drawing lessons and this is what they use there too. The colors are very vibrant and easy to use. The hardest thing is trying to get them to stop using them to go to bed. I would buy them again.

I'm an old portrait artist used to Prismacolors, and the lead-breaking had me trying new brands. These pencils BLEND better than anything I've ever seen, and sharpen easily and retain their leads! I am so impressed, I will never go to another brand. The fact that they're a great VALUE just sweetens the pot!

I found out on different craft sites that the Prismacolor pencils aren't as good now since they're being made in Mexico. I wanted more colored pencils that would blend well with gamsol. These pencils do a pretty good job, sharpen perfectly, and keep a point vs. Prismas that break constantly during use and/or have broken leads inside. I'd love if Blick came out with a bigger set that would include more pinks and purples (I have the 72-count set). I would recommend these pencils due to their good qualities.
