We make Blick Student Tempera thicker and brighter than other economy brands because we believe it makes a difference with kids, even the youngest ones.

Blick Student Grade Tempera is made with high-quality pigments, has high color strength, is lightfast, and won't flake, chip, or crack. It washes up with soap and water and is freeze-thaw stable.

It has a consistent viscosity for easy blending, stirs easily, then "bodies up" to its original viscosity. Made with less filler and less water, it won't sag or drip. For basic color mixing, we recommend using Turquoise, Magenta, and Yellow.

Choose from a variety of brilliant, opaque colors in five sizes of non-breakable plastic containers.

4-Color Pump Kits — The Primary Set contains one gallon each of Red, Yellow, Blue and White. The Secondary Set contains one gallon each of Green, Orange, Brown and Black. Four lockable pump lids, and a package of 100 Stancups are included with each kit.

6-Color Pump Kits — Our 6-color kits are available in gallon and half gallon sizes. Kits contain a lockable pump lid for each bottle, a package of 100 Stancups, and one of each color: Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Black, and White.

8-Color Multicultural Pack — This set includes a pint bottle of each of the following colors: Almond, Bisque, Walnut, Curry, Cinnamon, Burnt Sienna, Brown, and Peach.

6-Pack of Pints — Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Black, and White Student Grade Tempera, are packaged in a convenient 6-pack carrying carton.

Lockable Pump Lids — These pump lids have an improved locking mechanism that keeps paint inside the containers, and keeps the containers clean.

Note — All tempera paints contain organic compounds that make them safe to use, even if ingested, but this also means they eventually will spoil. To prevent spoilage, Blick recommends that you close the lid tightly after use and avoid returning unused liquid tempera to its original container after exposure to air. Always store tempera paints in their original containers, in a cool, dry place.

Great Paints but Blue is Indigo

I am an art teacher and was planning to use the primary set (R,Y,G,B,W,K) to teach color mixing to my students. The quality of the paint is great and I like that the pumps allow students to set their own palettes up without too much waste. I ordered an extra set of pumps just in case I had issues with clogging, so that one set can soak while the other is in use.

I have just one issue, the color that is labeled blue is actually closer to indigo which means beautiful violet mixes, but it makes mixing a good green impossible. I can purchase a green, but that defeats the purpose of teaching mixing, also you can't make a turquoise or peacock color as mixing green with the "blue" just makes for a muddy palette. I recommend this tempera in all colors with just one caveat: if you need a good mixing blue Crayola has one in their Premier Tempera line.

I have attached an image of Blick and Crayola blues mixed side by side. Both have been mixed with Blick yellow (top), Blick yellow & Blick white (line across middle), and Blick white (bottom).

DOUBLE CHECK SET COLORS....Secondary Set does NOT include PURPLE. It contains green, orange, black and BROWN???? Called about the problem and they will fix it. Good coverage and mixability.

I used this tempera in workshop for teachers. All the teachers wanted to know where I got the paint from. They told me it was better than the brand names that their schools make them buy, and they would consider buying this instead because of the quality. Plus it is really inexpensive!

The blue tempera is not a primary blue!

The blue color here is not a primary blue. It is impossible to create nice greens by mixing it with the yellow.

WOW! I am an ART teacher and was the first in our department to try this brand...and I was shocked! The RED is actually RED! The opacity is perfection and wide range of colors is wonderful. I have been talking to all of my art teacher friends about this product. I am a convert!

I just ordered about 8 bottles of this tempera paint in different colors for an art class I teach for ages 5-8. It was great! The kids got a little wild at the end but the clean-up was surprisingly easy!! The consistency of the paint was what I expected, with really nice coverage. Three colors stand out: the Turquoise and Magenta are gorgeous and had kids actually saying "ooooh!"; the Orange is fine in color, but I was surprised to see it slightly stain some white plastic paint cups. All of the other colors washed right out and left no staining, but the Orange...hmm. Still really happy with it though!

I always order blick's student tempera for our after school program. Compared to other student grade tempera paints it has better coverage and does not spoil as quickly.

However, the pump kits are completely worthless. They clog after every use and must be soaked for hours and painstakingly cleaned to restore use. I gave up on them quickly and called it a loss. I now only order in the quart size.
