Welcome to dickblick
This is a non-staining solvent designed for both commercial and professional artists and architects, used for thinning and removing all rubber cements. It's great for general clean-up, too.

Bestine rubber thinner
from Western Pa.
Comments about Bestine Solvent and Thinner:
While this item is great for thinning rubber cement. I thought it was good for thinning Polyester resin...for which it is not. Thinking it was styrene by another name I bought it. It does NOT thin resin...however it probably is fine for rubber cement.

I am a stamp collector and had been searching for a way to remove the self adhesive stamps from paper. Read an article where this product was recommended to use. Works great!
Have used for years, actually decades
from East Tennessee
I keep a can of Bestine on hand and have for decades. As far as I know this is the only retailed solvent in this category. Blick is about the only place to find it. I use it to clean up anything waxy, particularly on fragile items such as photos and print. I also use it to thin rubber cement. Love this stuff, but I have a bit of a problem now with the 32 oz. can. I cannot for the life of me pour it from this can into my rubber cement dispenser without it splashing or pouring out in an awkward way everywhere it is NOT supposed to go. A solution would be helpful. I don't think a funnel will help much as the problem seems to be when I want to pour just a little. I have thought of buying a smaller can to see if that will help. I could funnel a large amount to refill a smaller can. But boy does that spout configeration splash!
Best Solvent Bar None

I use this solvent to quickly remove any kind of adhesive. It is quick and clean without an oily residue. It is hard to find in local hardware or art stores although it works much better than acetone. Thank you Dick Blick for carrying this useful product.
Rubber Cement Solvent

uses for this solvent abound. Great for cleaning up dirty metal rulers, scissors, table tops that are made of anything but wood ( not wood --do not use on wood). But it does its job: it dissolves rubber cement even a double bond.
Rubber cement thinner and clean up
This product has been around for a long time. Used it years ago to clean up rubber cement. Couldn't find a small can anywhere. Just needed a little to clean up a rubber cement spill on my carpet...OMG! I tried everything and then remembered using this in the past but didn't want to buy a quart or 1/2 gal from a craft store for such a small job. I knew it would work...and it did...used Q-tips and got up every bit of the rubber cement stuck in the carpet fibers without damaging the carpet. Add this to every web thread for people who need this answer. So I am really happy! Thank you! p.s. I didn't take before and after photos. I should have.
Removes Used Self Adhesive Stamps

Really hard to find and its just about the only way to get S/S postage stamps off paper.
Only Solvent I Buy
Great Heptane based solvent. The only brand I buy. Blick has a good price when bought in bulk.

Seemed to do what I needed it to do, but be very careful with the fumes. It vaporizes easily and should not be used indoors, in confined areas or near open flame. Do not breath fumes!
I have a shortcut on my computer for this product.
