Ampersand as a company is one of the best I've ever dealt with, plus their hardboard is a fantastic multi purpose product. I have a whole bunch of boards in a range of sizes as supports for taping down watercolour paper, much lighter and just about as stable as masonite, and obviously sturdier than cardboard... and the hardboard can take a whole range of treatments to paint on directly. Seriously, I have stacks.

Great surface for mounting photographs & collage projects. Panel might need a coat of gesso if mounted image is to transparentEliminates the need for framing & has a contemporary look
My Go To for Oil Painting

I use nothing but Hardboard for my painting surface. Archival and easy to use, a few layers of gesso provide an excellent base for oils. I like harder surfaces as opposed to the flexibility of canvas and I prefer the unprimed Hardboard vs. the Gessoboard panels by Ampersand.
Heavy frame no warping at all and I live in a humid area.

Very much like these panel boards and brand!
Light, Sturdy, Smooth.
I love these! I keep a stack of the smaller sizes around for studies and quick mini originals; the combination of it being both solid and cheap makes it perfect for being able to sell studies that come out nicely. No fear of cracking in temp changes like with wood, and not as much warping.

Excellent quality - great for watercolor

I had been using the cheaper hardboards, but there wasn't an 8x10 available and I need that size for my pochade box so I picked these up instead. Fabulous quality boards! I use them to tape my watercolor paper for use in my box. Slides right into the holder made for 8x10 canvas and works perfectly!
