Firing Clays - High Temperature Firing Clays

Pieces cast with No. 1 Porcelain Slip fire to the translucency of fine porcelain. The working qualities of this white slip make it quite flexible and easy to cast. It releases easily from molds and patches well when necessary. Preferable in doll making.

This de-aired moist stoneware clay is formulated from choice clays for plasticity and whiteness, plus fire-clay to give it more body. Amaco No. 38 White Stoneware contains no grog, yet has the strength for throwing large pieces.

Available in two formulas. Moist clay is de-aired to ensure a homogenous mixture needing little or no wedging. Dry clay is finely ground and air-floated before packaging, ready for mixing with water to form a smooth clay. Use with all hand methods.

For larger work, No. 48 Stoneware Clay is blended from clays chosen for their plastic qualities, coarse fireclay and grog. Superb texture for throwing, handbuilding, and sculpting. Fires to a buff color at cone 5–6 and dark brown after reduction firing.

Supremely versatile, No. 58 is a great all-around classroom clay. Made from several clays chosen for their plasticity and color qualities, No. 58 has the warm brown color of reduction when fired in oxidation at cone 7, and a terra cotta color at cone 05.

Exquisitely white unfired, it's even whiter after bisque firing. Thin pieces are translucent when fired to cone 5. An excellent throwing clay with superb plasticity that's also good for handbuilding and sculpting. Maximum cone 6 firing.

Blick's moist stoneware clay is a ready-to-use, de-aired, homogenous mixture that needs little or no wedging. Its smooth, plastic consistency makes it excellent for throwing as well as modeling, coiling, and slab building. Cone 5-10 (2185° to 2381°F.)
