Patchwork Color Blocking with Pebeo Origin Acrylics

Create a patchwork color block painting with Pebeo Origin Acrylics! In this project, artist Tristina Dietz Elmes will walk you through mixing up a range of colors and applying them to a black gesso-treated canvas panel for a bold and eye-catching piece of art.

Instructions

  1. Begin by applying black gesso to your canvas panel, completely covering it. Allow to dry.

  2. On a palette sheet, use a palette knife to mix a Shimmer Blue (Primary Blue + Iridescent White), Dark Purple (Primary Blue + Primary Red + Titanium White), and Bright Green (Primary Blue + Primary Yellow + Titanium White). One at a time, apply each color in rectangular blocks to the canvas panel, being careful not to overlap colors. Allow to dry. Optional: use a heat gun to speed up the drying process.

  3. Mix up a Bright Orange (Primary Yellow + Fluorescent Pink) and Light Purple (Primary Blue + Fluorescent Pink + Titanium White). Add in some modeling paste to make the paints more opaque and apply in rectangular blocks over the previous layer. Be careful not the overlap the Bright Orange with the Light Purple. Allow to dry.

  4. Mix up a Light Blue (Primary Blue + Titanium White), add modeling paste, and follow the same steps, making sure to leave room for the last layer. Allow to dry.

  5. Mix up a Pale Green/Yellow (Primary Yellow + Fluorescent Green + Titanium or Iridescent White), mix with modeling paste, and fill in the rest of your canvas panel.
