Whether you experiment with one or try them all, each medium has a specific property to add to your artistic expression when painting.
This transparent gel medium helps you create impasto effects by thickening and reducing the flow of watercolors and gouaches.
Art Masking Fluid
This liquid is applied to make areas resistant to watercolor. Has a slight yellow tint. Not recommended for use on damp or soft sized papers, or if yellow staining of paper is a risk (Instead use Colorless Art Masking Fluid). Made from latex. Do not dilute.
Slows the drying of watercolors allowing more time for blending techniques. For maximum effect, dilute watercolors with medium only, but water can also be added.
Colorless Art Masking Fluid
A removable, colorless liquid, use it for masking areas of work that need protection when color is applied in broad washes. It is specifically designed for soft sized papers to avoid staining. Contains latex. Wash brushes immediately after use.
A medium that is known for giving a mottled or granular appearance to colors that usually give a smooth wash. For maximum effect, dilute color with medium alone.
Gum Arabic increases the brilliance, gloss, and transparency of watercolors. Use it for controlling spread when painting wet-on-wet.
A great introduction to the quality of Winsor & Newton Watercolor Mediums, this set contains 30 ml (1 oz) bottles of Art Masking Fluid, Gum Arabic, Iridescent Medium, and Texture Medium, plus an informational leaflet.
Mix this medium with watercolors or apply it over a dry wash to give iridescent or glitter effects. It is particularly effective when mixed with transparent colors.
Apply the medium directly to paper and allow it to dry before painting. The preparation then allows dry washes, including staining colors, to be more easily lifted from paper with a wet brush. Ideal for making corrections.
Ox Gall Liquid
Ox Gall is a wetting agent used with watercolors. It increases the flow of washes on the painting surface. It can also be used for marbling.
Permanent Masking Medium
A non-removable, transparent liquid mask, this medium is excellent for detail. It can be applied directly onto the paper, or mixed first with watercolors. Ensure that the fluid is thoroughly dry before overpainting. Wash brushes in warm, soapy water before using other colors.
Producing a textured finish for watercolors, this medium can be applied directly onto the paper, or mixed with watercolors first.

Solution to a big problem
from Christiansburg, VA
Comments about Winsor & Newton Watercolor Mediums:
The Blending Medium is the only thing I have found to allow painting a complex shape all one value. Normally by the time I get around the shape, the first edge is dry and won't flow into my final brush strokes. And this is with wet paper. The Blending Medium slows drying or something, so that you can spend all the time you need to get into the crevices, yet leave that passage looking as if you did it all in one go.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I really like the iridescent medium. I've used it mixed with various brands of watercolors and as a glaze. Either way, you get a nice silver shimmer when light hits the artwork at certain angles. This color is a very light silver, no hints of rainbow colors. When the light is "normal", the underlying work shows thru. I've even used this product as a glaze on a mixed media piece done with watercolor, Verithin colored pencils and sumi ink. The great thing is that when the light is "normal", the texture and details from the underglaze can still be seen. The only drawback to this product is that the iridescent part of the formula settles in the bottle forming a thick paste at the bottom. Shaking vigorously does little to reconstitute it, but stirring with the handle of a paintbrush works great! I purchased this item at a Blick retail location.

As a professional artist, I would highly recommend this!
This product in particular has a very unique consistency. It is more viscous, which makes it easier to handle. Other brands tend to be runny, diluted and watery.
