Welcome to dickblick
Introduced in 1935, Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache is considered by many to be the finest artist-quality gouache available. Today, thanks to significant developments in technology, the colors are smoother, flatter, more opaque, and more brilliant than ever before.
The Designers Gouache range offers a wide and balanced spectrum of colors. It includes bright colors for designers, more lightfast ones for fine artists, and a number of unique, ultra-bright colors such as Opera Pink and Opera Rose — ensuring that all artists can obtain the palette that best suits their work.
Exceptionally high pigment levels result in unsurpassed covering power and clean color mixes. The binder is pure gum arabic, which imparts a creamy, flowing consistency that glides across grounds and dries quickly to a flat, velvety, non-streaky finish.
All Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache colors are fully compatible with Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolors and Cotman Watercolors. They may also be mixed with Winsor & Newton Professional Acrylics and Galeria Flow Acrylics. Care should be taken, however, as some gouache colors may react adversely with acrylics. Combinations should be tested on palette paper prior to use in a painting.
Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache comes in 14 ml (0.47 oz) tubes. Black and White are also available in larger 37 ml (1.25 oz) tubes.

Winsor Newton gouache is the best
from Winston Salem, NC
The gouache is fine grained and the colors are highly color saturated. As well with any gauche I make sure that the paint is completely mixed with the water.

This product is well priced and provides great color
Perfect for sketchbook
from Senoia, GA
I'm a sketcher and have worked with oils, acrylics and watercolor but never gouache. It was slightly different than I expected out of the tube but once I dried a blob on my palette it acted just like I'd hoped. It's great and A must for my watercolor pages.
W&N Gouache and M Graham Gouache purchase
from Fay NC
I like both of these brands . The cost is similar between both . Both have a color swatch on tube so it's easy to tell at a glance what the color is .
W&N Naples Yellow

I love this W&N Naples Yellow color in both Gouache and Watercolor. It is a pigment not found in other brands, both permanent and lightfast.
You can't lose with Winsor & Newton Designer's Gouache

This gouache goes on like butter and dries to a streakless matte finish. I couldn't ask for more from a traditional gouache.
I prefer this gouache for SCA scroll illuminations
By Cat Coeur Noir
from Gulf Shores, AL
I have finally switched ALL my student grade gouache paints (the cheap kits you can get at hobby stores), over to WN Designer series. The difference is noticeable. Less paint provides better coverage, and it re-hydrates much more consistently in my paint trays. I use a lot larger color range to start with than a lot of calligrapher/illuminators because I like being able to blend colors in a more consistent way, and I will be adding yet more to the already fairly large color selection I have. The difference in my illumination work has pleased me immensely.
What changed besides the new look?
from S.E. Wisconsin
Is this still an industry standard? This was the best white for covering power. It had a paste like consistency and worthy of the cost. Now it seems thin. I noticed on the tube it was produced in France.I haven't found my old tubes but wonder if it as originally made in the UK. This has made me think about trying our competitors. Still good but not the standard it once was ...
