A range of synthetic brushes made by blending fibers of different thicknesses to achieve the most important qualities sought after by the watercolorist — strength, spring, and color holding capacity.
The round and one-stroke brushes have nickel-plated ferrules and short blue lacquered handles. The aquarelle brush has nickel-plated ferrules, solid acrylic handles, and angled flat ends.
The Designers' Round is a variant on the regular Round brush that is designed for highly detailed application. (Another name for this brush would be a "spotter"!) It is narrower, with less of a belly and lower color carrying capacity, and the hair is shorter for fine control.
A Rigger is a specialized Round brush for painting fine lines. It can also be used, with practice, for lettering. The original Rigger was a brush that was invented in the 19th century for painting the riggings on sailing ships. It is narrow in diameter, with very long hair.
Winsor & Newton's Cotman Round is a full bellied round brush with fibers of varying widths, so that it has both springiness and high color carrying capacity.

A gorgeous wash brush
Comments about Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolor Brushes:
A little pricey for my budget, but worth it. It's soft and handles very well. #sweepstakes
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
VERY POOR QUALITY!
It took TWO weeks to get this order! This brand of watercolor brush was recommended by my instructor but the 1/8" was unusable the way the hairs are so uneven and spread out, and the 1/4" is far larger than 1/4"...see pic with a 1/4" Princeton. They are too inexpensive to return with postage so high. Will definitely purchase brushes in person from now on. Live and learn.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Cotman 1/8" & 1/4" side by side
Merchant response: Thank you for reaching out! Because brush sizes are not standardized, one manufacturer's 1/4" brush can be much longer than another's, as you found. For this reason, measurements for the length and width of the tuft are listed with the item numbers and prices. We do want you to be satisfied with your purchase, and of course we don't expect you to use a brush with splayed hairs. One of our Customer Care Agents will be following up with you via email to see how we can help.
Great brushes, hold a lot of paint. I use the rigger brushes for my thinned down oil paint
Super brushes for a great price
from North Carolina
For an artist who works in realism using watercolors, these brushes can't be beat. The 2x0 brush is great for very very fine detail painting and makes possible a finished work of art whose subject has dimension and a photo realism impact.
Blue coating peeled off immediately
I've used this line of brushes in the past reliably but the few I just ordered from Blick were a disappointment. Within the first week of using them the blue coating split and began chipping off of all three brushes I purchased, making them sharp and uncomfortable to hold.
Merchant response: We're sorry to hear that the brushes you received aren't holding up well for you, and we're happy to take care of this. Please look for an email from a member of our Customer Care Team who will be in touch to assist you.
Good Gouache painting brush
from Los Angeles, CA
Comments about Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolor One-Stroke Series 666:
Really great brush for painting in gouache, holds a ton of paint and is stiff enough to push the paint around. Most watercolor brushes are too soft to deal with gouache well.
This brush is perfect for small areas!
from Camano Island, WA
I won one of these brushes at a WN demo. I love the brush. I bought one for each of my watercolor students.
These are really super. I have about a dozen of them and they all perform really well, and can take a lot of use (and abuse - I'm not that delicate with them). These and my Zen brushes are my favorites of the many brands I've tried. I plan on buying these indefinitely.
Great calligraphy brushes.
Comments about Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolor Aquarelle Series 777:
I am testing these brushes for lettering Roman script. So far they are spot on for sharp edges, pigment load and flex. I would recommend them!
