Welcome to dickblick
These rich color inks may come in a small package, but they perform beyond their size. Diluted in water, they keep their vibrant quality. Straight out of the bottle, they apply smooth and bright.
Winsor & Newton's professional quality ink range was especially developed for your writing and calligraphy needs. Most of the colors in the range are transparent, thinner in formulation, and fully intermixable, which makes them suitable for dip pens, fountain pens, technical pens, and airbrushes. Black, White, Silver, and Gold are thicker and more opaque, and should be used only with a dip pen or brush. This rule also applies to any mixtures containing these four colors.
Black and White have a matte finish. Silver and Gold have a metallic finish.
Set of 6 Colors
Six assorted colors come in 1 oz (30 ml) bottles. Colors include Green, Dark Blue, Gold, Sepia, Black, and Crimson.

I got the White - it does not work in fountain pens
By wanna a be sketcher

Comments about Winsor & Newton Calligraphy Inks:
I got this to mix with black or grey to use in a fountain pen to block out a sketch - I put it in a Noodlers AHAB and it would not start without a lot of fussing. I think the page I found on the web saying that these inks could be used in fountain pens was wrong. W&N doesn't specially say it works in a fountain pen for a reason - much too fussy to be a reliable way to use it. For it's intended use I think this is probably a good ink. It is nice and white and will write over other ink and stand out.

Shazam! This is incredible best ink for Spencerian lettering
from Portland, OR
I use this for sending notes to my high-end clients for my portrait studio. I use an oblique-nib holder and a flexible nib and write on chocolate brown paper. . They love it!also, at gatherings, I take my materials a and do what I tongue-in-cheek call 'My Party Trick' - people love to watch and love to take home 'bookmarks' with their names written on them.

The violet is so rich in color

The violet is so rich in color which pleasantly surprised me. Definitely doesn't disappoint. I look forward to using it every day for whatever I can think of.

Very even metallic color - can be used with a paint brus and easily diluted with water.
The good, the bad, and the smelly
I bought this ink in three colors; black, white, and gold. First off, they all smell terrible, but the black is truly horrible. It smells highly toxic to me. I was impressed with its opacity and ease of use in a dip pen, but after trying to use it a few times, I decided to never use it again. One of the times I used it, a person at another desk complained about the smell. It felt like a product I would want to use with excellent ventilation and/or an open window. The gold ink is a big disappointment. I tried using it with various nibs and it looked like a faint gold sparkle on various papers, including black. A total waste of money. The white ink, which looks absolutely fantastic on black paper, thankfully, does not smell as bad as the others. It's a truly matte opaque white and I will use it. Otherwise, I can not recommend the Winsor & Newton Calligraphy inks. I don't know if there was something wrong with the black ink that I received, and I'd thrown out the boxes asap, so I did not contact Dick Blick customer service as I figured I was just out of luck, but I hate wasting my money. There are better inks out there that don't smell so horribly.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

takes patience for me

This is the first white ink I've ever tried, so please know that while reading this review. It has taken a bit of adjustment for me to get a good flow with this white ink. For me, diluting the ink with a little water and isopropyl alcohol works best. It needs to be stirred and shaken. Be patient and prepared to wait a little longer for it to dry.
LOVE this ink.

White ink is just what I wanted - goes on really opaque and is perfect for any non-white paper!
