With the help of mediums, Winsor & Newton Artists' Acrylics may be used in a fluid, gestural manner (much like watercolor) and in heavier applications (as with oils). Mediums also allow acrylics to be shaped and carved, used for printmaking, or for virtually any other technique.
Made from the same resinous binder used to make Winsor & Newton Artists' Acrylic paints, Winsor & Newton acrylic painting mediums enable artists to improve color durability, keep colors brilliant, extend their colors, bring transparency and depth to the film, and improve flow and "brush-ability."
Winsor & Newton Flow Improver increases flow and workability on non-absorbent surfaces for flat, even color and hard edges. No reduction in color strength occurs when mixed with Winsor & Newton Artists' Acrylic. Flow Improver should be diluted in water to a ratio of 1:20.
Add Glazing Medium to Winsor & Newton Artists' Acrylics to build thin layers of glowing, brilliant color, achieve maximum transparency, or to improve flow. No color shift occurs when mixed with Winsor & Newton Artists' Acrylics. Glazing Medium dries to a high gloss finish.
Add Gloss Gel to Winsor & Newton Artists' Acrylics to maintain paint viscosity, hold brush and knife marks, increase depth, and add transparency. Gloss Gel dries completely clear to an even, gloss finish.

Gloss UV Varnish
Winsor & Newton Gloss UV Varnish provides a protective gloss finish against dirt, grease, pollution, fading, and color shift. Apply it in a thin layer after the painting has been allowed to dry for 24 hours. Do not use UV Gloss Varnish as a medium or on absorbent surfaces.
Use Winsor & Newton Matt Gel to maintain paint viscosity, and to hold brush and knife marks. No loss of color depth occurs when mixed with Winsor & Newton Artists' Acrylic. Matt Gel dries completely clear to an even, matte finish.

Matt UV Varnish
Winsor & Newton Matt UV Varnish provides a protective matte finish against dirt, grease, pollution, fading, and color shift. Apply it in a thin layer after the painting has been allowed to dry for 24 hours. Do not use Matt UV Varnish as a medium or on absorbent surfaces.
This lightweight, flexible medium thickens color and allows artists to build up depth in layers after allowing each to dry. Modelling Paste can be mixed with color or used to overpaint. It can be sanded or carved, and it won't shrink or crack when dry. For best results, apply Modelling Paste with a knife. This opaque medium may lighten some colors, and it dries to an even, matte finish.
Satin UV Varnish
Winsor & Newton UV Satin Varnish provides a protective satin finish against dirt, grease, pollution, fading, and color shift. Apply it in a thin layer after the painting has been allowed to dry for 24 hours. Do not use Satin UV Varnish as a medium or on absorbent surfaces.
Slow Drying Medium
Use Winsor & Newton Slow Drying Medium in a maximum ratio of 1:1 to increase drying time up to twice the normal time. No color shift occurs when mixed with Winsor & Newton Artists' Acrylic. Slow Drying Medium also increases transparency and depth while maintaining viscosity.
Use Winsor & Newton Varnish Remover to safely remove varnish without damage to paintings, allowing them to be cleaned and revarnished.

Mixing with Gouache to set Brush Calligraphy
from Houston, Texas
Comments about Winsor & Newton Winsor & Newton Artists' Acrylic Mediums:
I'm a brush calligrapher and I use gouache to address envelopes. The dried gouache can catch and rub off onto the next envelope, especially with cotton envelopes which are a bit rougher than most. I emailed Winsor & Newton to ask for a medium that might help with this and they recommended Winsor & Newton Acrylic Matte Medium. I haven't tried it yet with cotton envelopes but with the linen textured there was no smearing once dry. I am very happy with this purchase. A little goes a long way and the bottle is huge.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Quick drying gloss used to highlight painted flowers with matte varnish to add contrast to the background and make the gloss POP
Made my eyes water
An artist friend suggested this to use as the final coat over gel medium. I couldn't use it because it made my eyes water and my nose run. Que sera. I gave it to my friend.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

It does what it is suppose to. I haven't tried others so I can't compare to anything else. But this stuff is wonderful. I love all Winsor and Newton products.

I love it!!
from Monroe, WA
I use it as intended with my Winsor & Newton acrylic paints. I find it works well with the Golden and Dick Blick artists paints. I have always loved the Winsor & Newton paints and now love the mediums too!

Gloss Gel has a strange texture
By Brian R
from Pasadena, CA
I really like the Gloss Medium and use it regularly. However, the Gloss Gel has a weird jello-like texture that I find unusable. I bought it to create impasto textures and thicken the paint, but it's gelatinous texture doesn't mix well and it doesn't hold knife marks. I love the new line of Artist's Acrylics, but this product does not perform. Giving 3 stars as an average. The Medium is 5-star and the Gel would be 1-star or zero if possible.
The Winsor & Newton Artists' Acrylic Mediums are a great compliment to the acrylic color range as they contain the same cutting edge clear resin to prevents color shift. See the range of these quality acrylic mediums and varnishes to enhance your painting experience — and results!
