Over a decade ago, in the hills of Northumberland, England, artist John Hersey began hand-making his own pastels. Gently hand-rolled and air-dried, each stick is as much an organic sculpture as it is a tool. Look closely at a stick and you may see the fine lines and fingerprints imparted by the pastels' creator. Each pastel takes on the tapered shape of the bowl of the maker's palms.
Hersey's unique color formulations contain only pure pigments in a cycle of related hues, instead of adding white or black to the colors. The result is intense, vibrant color application not muddied by the blending of colors. The color range is sublime overall and at moments astonishing.
Unison's pastels contain very little binder, making them truly soft and smooth. Pastels measure approximately 2-1/8" long × 5/8" diameter (54 mm × 16 mm). Sticks vary slightly due to the hand-making process.

I seldom use any other pastels

I do scenery and old houses if they have character. Ocean views and I love shies. These pastels lend themselves perfectly for this.
Best pastels on the market

Amazing pigment is what make them top pastels..besides layering it's easy cos they are not that "greasy" as some good quality brands are(some Schminke for exp., Sennelier etc) and on the other hand are not that "dusty" when you need to apply layer upon layer to fill the paper. They cover so well it is a delightful experience. My pastel painting resembles oil painting that's all due to Unison. Great brand indeed.

The set of 63 half sticks is a great combination of basic colors, values, darkest darks, lightest lights, and warm and cool temperatures. I like the half sticks because they easily fit into my travel pastel carrying case. Unison pastels are silky smooth and give you excellent results.

Beautiful pastels and colors
My favorite pastel stick
from Livonia, Michigan
Used with light pressure it's smooth as silk. Used with more pressure it can spread like pudding.

Unison pastels are very soft. They hold up well without crumbling or breaking a lot like some other brands. These are the best soft pastels for the cost. I highly recommend them.
Essential to the Portrait Sets
from San Antonio, TX
I added the Eye Colors set to my 18-color Portrait Set and my 8-color Caucasial Portrait Set. Between the three sets, I am have all the colors I need in order to produce portraits for skin tones all the way from near-deathly-pale (self-portraits, I'm afraid!) to light Mediterranean (my husband, who tans like nobody's business!). The Eye Color set in particular was essential for not only eye colors, but hair colors as well. Also useful for shadows. Very happy I bought it.

Can't Wait to Expand My Collection
I received the Portrait Set of 18 for Christmas from my parents and my initial attempts revealed the need to add to that set in order to get the effect I wanted. Due to the expense of the brand, I had to wait a considerable amount of time to do this and it was a painful thing to let that beautiful set sit unused for so long. Now all is well, however, as I happily paint portraits. Works well with the Sennelier Pastel Card, by the way!
Unison Pastels were created by an artist for artists. These uniquely soft and highly pigmented sticks are individually rolled which eliminates hard spots and provides consistent texture and color.
