Tombow graphite tends to be smoother than others and will lay down almost one grade softer. Price to value is tops.

Best drawing pencisl ever.
from New Mexico
Throughout my life I've had every brand of drawing pencils, from a regular school pencil given out for free to expensive sets purchased at an exclusive art supply store. I've purchased and used single pencils and expensive kits that have everything from 9B to 9H including Fs, HBs H and Bs. I don't remember when I bought Tombow Mono's but I do remember stopping and saying, wow, these are very good pencils, something I've never done with a pencil before. They lay out great and the smoothness is notable.
This is a good store

I am new to art -- a rank amateur. Acquiring the skill is obviously the hard part, but the tools are important. Blick has a lot of tools, seemingly fairly priced, and Blick also delivers quickly.

Tombow Mono are my first choice of drawing pencils.
from Everett, WA
Tombow Mono graphite pencils sharpen to a fine point and glide nicely on whatever surface I am using, from smooth panels to hot pressed paper. They are strong, don't break easily. They come in a nice range of light to dark value. I work in fine detail and need the sharpness that Tombow Mono pencils can give me.

Not that special
I bought the 3 piece-set thinking using them for my sketching . I have used different brands of pencils over the years since I was little, from very expensive ones like the blue Staedtler Mars Lumogragh ones to cheap school pencils. My perspective is that these Tombow Mono Pro pencils are not worth the praise and price of what they are listed . Although saying that , these are decent and a little above school pencils giving its wood quality and smell ( other wood pencils have stronger smell which I slightly don't like) . There's also an important thing to point out is that these Tombow pencils themselves are NOT actually made in Japan .Although on the carton package says" Made in Japan", on the pencils , it says "Made in Vietnam" . It's not a big deal to me , but I feel a little tricked . My favorite pencils so far are the ones that are not too expensive but have good quality like Staedtler Tradition ( they have great paint job ,great wood quality ,sufficient bonding that doesn't use much glue, and superb graphite lead.) , another will be Koh-I-Nor Hardtmuth 1500 ( They are smooth , but not easily wear out , great for cross-hatching). I prefer soft lead pencils , so another brand I am using is Colleen for sketching on print paper ( Colleen is a Japenese brand , these pencils have terrible wood barrel but soft lead, they were very cheap when I bought them) .Sometimes for light sketching I use Staedtler Minerva B pencil which I almost run of ( it is harder , dark enough, does not wear out much) .DickBlick does not carry any of those brands. I wish you did because overall I am satisfied every time I shop at DickBlick online. You guys are always fast and careful at packaging .So my final thoughts on Tombow Mono Professionals are:Pros: - Good wood quality ( slightly lighter and softer than other cedar wood pencils)- Great appearance ( gold letterpress , glossy coating )- Decent graphite lead . It seems that Japanese pencils tend to have softer lead Cons:-Expensive considering they do not have any outstanding quality to offset the price
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Simply the Best
from New York
Tombow pencils are more responsive in line and tone work than any pencil I have used. The difference is notable and extraordinary.
Simple, Perfect Every time.
These are my go to pencils for drawing. Have used them for years and highly recommend!
Tombow Pencils are tops!
from Sarasota FL
These are rich graphite pencils that can be applied smoothly. They yield quite a bit of graphite in the "B" range. If you are looking for a harder, lighter pencil, then select the H range. We use these a lot and they are recommended to all my students!
Very versatile and good quality
from Jersey City, NJ
I use this product for drawing on Blick Bristol pads. One can achieve the lighter side of medium and all the way to very dark shadows. It is versatile and blends very well with just cheep paper towels. I also like that it doesn't destroy the paper and any marks can be erased fairly well.
