Bought two. Both broke.
By The Atomic Artist

Comments about Testrite Easel Light:
I bought two of these because I need to paint large canvases. Both of them broke where the shade connects to the gooseneck. I duct taped them in place, but the heat melts the duct tape after a while and has to be replace. The goosenecks also sag after a while with the weight of the bulbs. I expected a more solid, heavy-duty lamp for the price. Will try and find something else in the future.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great Easel Light

Great light and "Made in the USA".
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This light works perfectly with my easel. Only problem, which really isn't a problem, is the tightening of a bolt caused the rubber around it to twist. Basically a cosmetic issue. Otherwise, its a great light.

As other reviewers have noted, the clamp is too weak. I have a heavy wooden easel with plenty of room for clamping, but the lamp is heavy enough that it won't stay in place no matter where I clamp it. Also the shade is loose, and cannot be tightened. It always points straight down, there is no way to angle it to the side. I can't think of any reason to recommend this lamp to anyone for any purpose.

Clamp leaves something to be desired
from Pella, Iowa
I love having this tool in my studio but the clamp wants to work on it's own terms! Tends to want to sag and so I have to find a spot to "brace" it against in order to hold it in place. If I had it to do again I would spend the extra money for the better quality clamp or go with a floor model.

I use this on my H frame easel, it works, ....but does not clamp easy to the side, it wants to fall, I use it from the top of the easel, clamp up. Which is fine for large paintings, however not so great for small or low painting when you are seated. But it works. The nuts holding the arm to the lamp come loose too easy.

Unlike the first reviewer, my light works exactly as promised. It stays where I put it and has not damaged my easel at all. I did have to slightly tighten two nuts after I took it out of the box. Using it at a second home and did not want to pay a high price.

Doesn't stay on, damages easel
By AP artist

Wanted a longer, flexible light for my Richeson easel. Bought this light, and it not only moves around while adjusting, but bites into the wood of the easel. The metal on the clamp presses into the wood yielding big 'dents' into it, and doesn't even stay put when the lamp is moved around for better lighting. I put it on 3 or 4 places on my easel, trying to find a place that was steady, but just ended up clawing apart those areas. I returned this and got a (admittedly more expensive) daylight flexible easel lamp, which works great because A. the clamp is bigger, has a soft foam area on the clamp where it attaches to the easel, and B. the clamp part can be tightened with a screw/bolt setup not found on the testrite. The Daylight brand was $90 locally, but came with a daylight bulb, and is just what I wanted. Unless you have a steel easel not easily damaged, DO NOT buy this one.
