Comments about Strathmore Softcover 500 Series Mixed Media Art Journal:
I wanted cotton paper so the choices was limited. This Art journal is one of the best love. The paper takes Watercolor, inks, markers with no problem of bleed through. Takes a lot of erasing with out any wearout. Love the feel of the cover. If any cons. I would say opening it flat at first was hard but got easier as it got used. There is some buckling of pages due to the Watercolor but not that bad. I like it to the point I have already brought my next.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

LOVE this journal
from Portland, OR
I fell in love with the larger version of this mixed media journal, but wanted a smaller one to travel with and no one had it including my local Blick store so I was over the moon when I found it on their web site. Journaling is such a personal experience and I'm very tactile- the cover just feels so great to me, soft, pliable. Paper is important to me as well. This is a perfect fit.
Strathmore Mixed Media paper is my favorite for art journals, I buy it constantly. Usually I get the larger spiral bound notebooks but I'm taking a month-long trip overseas and wanted something to document the trip. This will work great!
A beautiful journal

I was disappointed in the weight of the paper for wet media. I own another of this brand that took watercolor very well. This journal is attractive with a soft cover and no spiral binding. It would work for journalingusing drawing and collage techniques. Permanent markers might bleed through the pages.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great multimedia sketchbook

It is a great sketchbook to take on the trip with you. It is light and durable and can be used with wet media. I use it for my pen and ink drawings which I love tinting with watercolors afterwards.

I will definately buy this journal again !
from Happy in AZ : )
I thought the competitive product was great but the quality of the paper (500 series) is outstanding - even though the other says it too is 140 lb. and for wet surfaces it does not come close to this paper.

Mediocre as can be
from Columbus, OH
Rated for mixed-media with a vellum finish: doesn't play well with ink, light watercolor, markers, color pencils, or graphite. Everything (except for Prismacolor liners so far) becomes a schmeary mess before you're done working. If you want a good mixed-media sketchbook, go with Canson or a Strathmore "Visual Journal".The binding IS very nice and surprisingly sturdy, I will say that.

A Nice Size to Carry Around
By Cozy Knitter
from Tontitown, AR
I was looking for a small journal to take along with me to sketch outside or when I see something away from home. This is a perfect size. The paper is quality and works well with inks and watercolors. I also use watercolor pencils. It is also lightweight so does not add weight to my pack.
Strathmore books the best

My granddaughter uses the book for her sketching. They are made very well and the paper texture is perfect for a variety of materials to be used on it.
