Created in 1893, this 100% cotton fiber, acid-free bristol is an industry standard.
It's available in Vellum and Plate surfaces. Plate (Hot Press) is unsurpassed for fine pen and pencil work, allowing flat and even washes. The Vellum (Cold Press) surface is designed for pencil, colored pencil, soft to hard charcoal, hard pastel, and oil pastel. It is also suitable for washes and gouache. Both surfaces are excellent for airbrush.
Note — Some sizes are cut down from larger sheets. Therefore, the sheet you receive may not have watermarks.
Handling Charge — When ordering sheets of paper or board larger than 18” x 24” in quantities of less than 10, a $3.00 per order handling fee applies. Paper or boards may be assorted to reach the quantity of 10.

Lack of Quality Control; Paper Stock and Size as Expected
from New York, NY
Comments about Strathmore 500 Series Bristol Pads:
While this paper is exactly the stock and size I would expect, it simply did not hold up in the realm of consistency in manufacturing. All the same size, some did not have the Strathmore watermark, others did, and most had it offset partially on the paper - less than ideal for selling or framing. Most of these were not checked for quality control - I doubt anyone looked at them for these manufacturing defects. At the very least, when I order supplies, I would expect standardization on product across the board - this item fell short.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The Bristol "plate" hot press is great for ink
Ink really pops on the plate surface of this paper. Micron, Staedtler and Prismacolor and ballpoint pens glide on the paper. However, this is not a good substrate for colored pencil. Wax pencils like Prismacolor tend to smear, dull and look cloudy on the plate surface and it is not conducive to layering. The cold press Strathmore 500 Series vellum is a better option for colored pencil.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Love this paper

I have an assortment of Bristol vellum pads of lower quality, and bought this one for final picture for a commission. I love the texture and stiffness of this paper. It's great!

handles both pencil and pen & ink and watercolor wash beautiful stuff
greatmixed media surface
By Art professor
The surface is very smooth yet durable, you can achieve very delicate rendering with graphite. It withheld stress with some amount of water media, but it warps when you apply water, so if you are looking for a better option for wet media, I'd go for mixed media heavy weight paper which has similar surface quality. Color pencil looks and works good, as well as any pen.
I found the quality of the paper, giving the artist the ability to make many corrections without destroying the paper itself. Additionally the paper has the quality to bring out some beautiful shading for the artist, in regards to the deep blacks.................

This is the best drawing paper I've ever used for my charcoal techniques - it has the feel and ease of the 400 but with super thick sheets that are archival for preservation. The price is more than fair considering the quality - you get what you pay for. Love it!
VERY RESILIENT TO HEAVY WORK

A paper that will work with good shading abilities and very tough and will work with allot of heavy changes without damage to the paper.

The 500 Series is by far the best paper you can use in the Bristol category. True acid free and archival. It is a pleasure to put and ink tip to.
Quality is awesome!

I was using the 300 series and it was great, but when I got this I noticed a pretty noticeable difference. It is definitely high quality. The only slight negative aspect about this product is the price. I understand that it is high quality but it is a tad expensive for only 15 sheets. Not ridiculously expensive, but getting close to it.
