  It's available in Vellum and Plate surfaces. Plate (Hot&nbsp;Press) is unsurpassed for fine pen and pencil work, allowing flat and even washes. The Vellum (Cold&nbsp;Press) surface is designed for pencil, colored pencil, soft to hard charcoal, hard pastel, and oil pastel. It is also suitable for washes and gouache. Both surfaces are excellent for airbrush. 
   Note &nbsp;&mdash;&nbsp;Some sizes are cut down from larger sheets. Therefore, the sheet you receive may not have watermarks.

Strathmore 300 Series Bristol Board is an economical 2-ply bristol, available in two surfaces. Smooth is suited for pen or pencil. Vellum is ideal for a broad range of media, including crayon and charcoal. 
  These tapebound pads hold 20 acid-free, 100 lb (270 gsm) sheets.

When the longevity of cotton fibers is not required, both intermediate and professional artists recommend the Strathmore 400 Series Bristol.    Regular (Vellum) surface works well with pencil, charcoal, and pastel.
