Strathmore 400 is one of the most versatile sheets Strathmore offers. This cream-colored drawing paper with a smooth, non-reflective surface is ideal for line drawing and technical detail work, as well as sketching and finished work.
Each pad contains 24 sheets of 80 lb (130 gsm) paper, wirebound on the short side. The true size sheets are micro-perforated, allowing access to the entire sheet and the ability to remove the sheets cleanly.

Simply the Best!!!
from San Francisco Bay Area
I do pointed pen calligraphy work and have tried most every other brand as well as the 300 series Strathmore. When comparing it with high end brands, the 400 series smooth paper is simply the best in my opinion. Its heavier weight and buttery smooth surface are without equal for every every type of ink, pointed nib and fountain pen that I own. I still occasionally try new papers but always come back to these and Dick Blick's pricing is always the best. The only issue some might have is the ivory color.
good quality item
The paper is perfect for sketching, inking and other media.I prefer the wirebound as an asset to keep your work organized and intact instead of having loose sheets that fall off.For the price it's an excellent addition.
Great Smooth Paper
I use my drawing paper in my charcoal and graphite pencil drawing class. I tend to erase a lot and this paper allows each mark of graphite to be completely erased, without showing most residue. I purchase the 18x24 size and I love it!

Great for my adult beginning drawing
from Llindsborg, Kansas
I'm teaching a drawing class for adult beginners and I like the way the paper takes the various wet and dry media the class is using..It accepts their efforts very well.. It's a good general drawing paper, I've used it for years.. I also appreciate the sturdy back for sitting at a table and tilting the pad upward as well as outdoors where seating is less available or unsteady..\\

This paper has a nice smooth surface and is good for detailed drawing. It still has a bit of tooth but not so much as other charcoal paper, so it holds pastel or charcoal well but allows for more fine tuning in the drawing process.
always been nice
good quality paper, heavier than most, both surfaces are nice. been using them with my high schools art students for years. always recommend them to others.

paper good..condition...not so good
I use this paper for most of my work, and for the most part it works really well. The issue i have with it is the condition in which i always receive it, which is usually damaged. I order several pads at a time mainly to cover the amount of work i do, but a bigger reason now is that 4 out of 5 pads will arrive damaged. even when dick blick sends a replacement it also arrives damaged, as did the pads I just received. there's usually a smashed corner, the perforation is placed at the bottom of the pad instead of the top, or there are dents in the center of the pad. the damage always goes through the entire pad, front to back. the damage doesnt seem to occur during shipping. seems like it's something that occurs during manufacturing, or the warehouse. I may have to find an alterate source for this product as i cant seem to get an undamaged pad from here. again the paper itself works well, but it's tough to use paper that always arrives damaged.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
