Not completely smooth & some a completely different texture
Comments about Strathmore 300 Series Newsprint Pads:
I'm a student at Watts Atelier and they recommend using smooth newsprint. Although they have a recommended brand, I made the mistake of ignoring their suggestion, figuring all 'smooth' newsprint is the same; I was wrong. I'm very disappointed that the Strathmore paper has a bit of texture to it - it's not completely smooth. And it appears that I may have gotten a defective pad, because some of the pages are actually extremely rough & textured - as if the pad got mixed in two different batches, so it appears quality control isn't the best at Strathmore, which is surprising. Also, although it's not easy to erase charcoal on any paper, this paper seems especially apt to retain ghosted lines when erased on.I definitely wouldn't recommend this paper if it's important to get detail in your charcoal work. Very disappointing. :(
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I would buy this product again.

The amount I paid for this pad compared to the amount of paper that came with it was well worth it. This provided me with more than enough newsprint paper to practice charcoal drawings on from my design classes.

I like to draw on newsprint paper and not worry about it being perfect. I draw for the trash using this paper. I do life drawing sessons twise a week and this paper is just the ticket. I like the 18x24 size the best. This size gives me the space to put down a lot of work in a hurry. I like to do 5 one min.drawings 5 two min. and so on. So I need the larger paper. If you are serious about drawing, this is a must paper to buy. (Strathmore Newsprint)

I love using the Strathmore smooth surface newsprint paper better then the rough.I am able to draw faster with the smooth surface. This is important when you are at a Fugure Drawing class, and time is at it's peek. The weight of the paper is good. At 32 lbs.I need to be able to go from one page to another without tearing the paper.I like the 18x24 inch.size.In this size I can do a couple of drawing's at a time.I also like to draw big.

O.K. but not great.
The binding on the top of the bad sucks. 20 pages fell out when I wanted to use it for the first time. It was almost old or something. Overpriced for the quality of paper.
