Schmincke has been developing and manufacturing its Horadam line of watercolors since 1881, and the company is now owned by the fourth generation of the original family. Today the Horadam line includes 110 colors, 70 of them formulated with a single pigment. Each color has its own individually optimized formula.
Schmincke has a reputation for using only the highest-quality natural gums, water-soluble resins, and pigments. For example, the company uses only Kordofan Gum Arabic from the southern Sahara region, and distinguishes between good and bad harvests or "vintages" of this natural resin as it selects its raw materials.
Horadam Watercolors are available in 15 ml (.51 oz) tubes. Made in Germany.
Set of 12
This metal boxed set has 12 colors in 5 ml (0.17 oz) tubes, including Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Red Light, Permanent Carmine, Ultramarine Finest, Prussian Blue, Phthalo Green, Permanent Green Olive, Yellow Ochre, English Venetian Red, Sepia Brown, and Ivory Black. Also includes a fold-out palette.

Horadam colors can be lifted from a dried palette without forming small bubbles. Colors that have dried on the palette can be reused an unlimited number of times.
Horadam makes limited use of ox gall as a dispersant. Colors flow evenly and are fully intermixable. This helps the artist maintain full control of color, even on softer papers.

Amazing quality paint!

Comments about Schmincke Horadam Aquarell Artist Watercolors:
As most people know different brands of paints use different pigments for the same "color". So brand is about pigment, lightfastness, consistency, and transparency level. And price of course. Schmincke is one of my favorite brands for watercolor - their Transparent Orange 281 is GREAT!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

LOVE Schmincke Watercolors
I love the way these products are made. They are a high quality and it reflects in the enjoyment of using them. They have very transparent and vibrant colors.
Rich, vibrant watercolors
As a total amateur, which I still am, I had only used Windsor & Newton watercolors, and occasional lesser brands, and didn't know about Schminke watercolors. These are very beautiful, vibrant, rich colors. I also hadn't known about Dick Blick Artist Supplies, and have now ordered many things online. Great deals. Great service.
I will buy this product again and again and again.

I love Schminke watercolors because they are smooth, true colors. The company seems to want to make them safe for a lot of use. I find them dependable and I know what to expect. I like the fact that they are the same in both the tubes and the blocks. I am used to the metal boxes they use for holding the colors and use the same approach even when I use other brands. I trust that when they say a color is transparent, it is. Sometimes I think they are a little conservative in that they don't take many risks with new colors. The provision of the new colors this spring is quite a risk for them. I love the new colors.
Really nice paint

Comments about Schmincke Horadam Aquarell Watercolor Pan Sets:
I bought my first set of Schmincke watercolor paints. I am used to using student grade pans and artist grade tube paint. I usually buy tube paint and put them in empty half pans, but don't re-wet as easily as Schmincke pans. I have a box of panned M. Grahams, W&N, and Daniel Smith tube paint, none of them reactivate as nicely as these. My brush is like a hot knife on butter, no misting and waiting, the brush doesn't stick or get too much sticky paint on it if it's not wet enough. I love it!The colors aren't really my thing, they are a bit subdued, not as vibrant as other brands. Though I understand botanical painters love these paints for that reason. I am still supper happy I bought them, I love working with them, I can always add my other paints to a mix to brighten the colors.I have one minor complaint, I wish they would have used a different paper to wrap the pans. I was not able to get the wrapper off several of the paints. I have used my set a few times now hoping I would eventually 'wash' the paper out. Now that the pans have nice divots in them, I can see that is not going to happen. I have no idea if this will cause issues with the integrity of the paint in my finished work, I'm just not going to worry about it and keep grumbling to myself as the paper is getting in the way.

12 Colorful Pans of Fun
By Abstract Allen
from Phoenix, Arizona
Never tried Schmincke until now. I'm now a Schmincke fan. Full pan set of 12 included a colour chart with blank rectangles to paint shades for each colour. Nice touch! The colours wet quickly, flow beautifully, and produce brilliant hues. I'm having so much fun painting I'm forgetting to have meals on time. I remind my wife to first tap my shoulder to get my attention before interrupting me while I'm busy in my art cave painting because I'm zoned out in a colourful world. Oh yeah, there was a glitch with the initial set delivered to me; Blick representatives quickly assisted me in easily returning the initial set and promptly shipping a replacement set, all within a few days. Blick and Schmincke are my art supply heroes!

Translucent orange is a must

I was already a huge fan of the acrylic version of PO71. This didn't disappoint.
Nice set with a few drawbacks
from Dallas, TX
The watercolor paints rewet beautifully, and on that front Schmincke cannot be faulted. However, I was disappointed that they have some pretty fugitive pigments in this set, like their indigo. Also, some of the edges are a little sharp, while the Sennelier and Winsor and Newton tins have nice rolled edges. Still, I do enjoy the way these paints perform.

terrible condition! pans cracked and paper stuck to paint!
from new york city
I have ordered Schminke watercolor pan sets in past with no problem; this time, several pans were cracked and the paint wrappers stuck to the paints. These paints were sent to me in very bad condition. Very dissatisfied.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
