Art–Time Washable Tempera Paints feature vibrant pigments and colors. Tested by teachers for reliability, they lay down smooth and won’t peel, crack, or separate.
These paints are virtually odorless, and they clean up with water, making them ideal for use with smaller children.
Storage tip — All tempera paints contain organic compounds that make them safe to use, even if ingested, but this also means they eventually will spoil. To prevent spoilage, Blick recommends that you close the lid tightly after use and avoid returning unused liquid tempera to its original container after exposure to air. Always store tempera paints in their original containers, in a cool, dry place.

Comments about Sargent Art-Time Washable Tempera Paint:
This is very interesting tempera. It's almost transparent when it goes on, but colors are vibrant when dry. It also has some of the characteristics of watercolor so you can see layers of color. It does not blend well with traditional tempera paint - so keep them separate. If it goes on too think it can flake so keep it thin.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This paint is great for painting on posters. Mixes to create other colors well and doesn't crack. Beautiful vivid colors.

Made our Pre K graduation sign and the paint dried great and did not run!
We have used this paint before and it is great for a variety of projects, buying the larger quantity gives the best deal. We love using this paint for our art projects!

We used this product to paint children's workshop projects. I normally use a different manufacturer's tempera paint but ran out. Dick Blick did not stock the paint I normally use so I went with this is an alternative. The paint was very thin and translucent. Had to use multiple coats to get good coverage. There are competitive products in the same price range that are far superior to this brand of paint. I would not recommend this product. Very disappointed.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Delivery process was a bit delayed due to some confusion about address...But paint did finally get there...However the quality is absolutely not more than average. Paints are milky and colors are not very saturated or bright. Red is more pinkish and white is quite thin.

Tempera Paint, an old medium for artists
from Detroit, MI
I use various brands of Tempera for landscape and skyscape paintings. I also paint craft projects with them. I use all types of paint but I feel like the typical acrylic, watercolors, oils etc. are to expensive for experimenting with. I have bought lots of Tempera paint and I have no hesitation to mix up some new colors and try new things. I really like the consistency and working life of the Sergent Art Tempera. I usually mix up plenty of paint before I start then have some left over. I found that in some cases these paints are a little thinner than what I want so I leave the mixed paint out to thicken up a little. Anywhere from 3 or 4 hours to overnight.

I own an art studio for kids and always have a problem with red paint staining everything from clothes to floors, so I thought I'd try this brand to see how it'd do. Wow, it's bad... The color is okay, but I guess it's so full of detergent it's gloppy (or maybe I got a really old bottle). It's so thick & chunky that the students actually whined about it and asked me to buy new paint. It doesn't come out of the bottle easily, but it's washable if that's all you care about. I would not buy this product again and have to waste more money to replace this gallon of gunk.
