Groovy pencils - love them

Comments about Prismacolor Sketching Pencils:
Due to a busy lifestyle I switched to pencil based art a couple of years ago. I sketch my art with a H or 2H pencil and then give it some depth using a Bic Atlantis Black Fine ball point pen. ;) After that I use Prismacolor pencils to give it the wow effect. I do lay the Prismacolor on pretty heavy most of the time and they are beautiful.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have succumbed to a 100 sketches in 100 days challenge, and I'm using the pencils - with white - on pastel paper to complete this challenge. They are easy to use, move smoothly, and because there's a bit of wax in the pigment, they are easy to rub to create texture.

This pencil crumbles when sharpened. The wood splits and the lead breaks off in chunks. I bought, believe it or not, a Prismacolor sharpener to make sure it wasn't the fault of my sharpener and got the same result. I am not happy. Year's ago this same Prislmacolor "sanguine" pencil was terrific... What has changed? I'm bewildered and unhappy.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I wrote an earlier negative review based on the 2 pencils that arrived. The sepia was a charcoal type pencil, the sanguine which is a little lacking in red for my taste was a wax type prismacolor pencil--two different media. For some reason I ordered another sanguine a month later and this time it was the same media as the sepia so maybe there was a temporary production oversight. At anyrate, both are (on second order) colored equivalents of a medium hardness charcoal pencil which is basicaly what I was expecting to begin with.
No, much better available
These two pencils are not compatible, the sepia is charcoal and the sanguin, which is closer to sienna really, not sanguine at all, is more of a prismacolor pencil. The sepia will smooth and blend like charcoal, the sanguine will not. Neither is a bad pencil but sanguine and sepia are colors associated with certain sketching uses but I don't think these will do. I'll try the pencils recommended in my drawing course book--CarbOthello Caput Mortuum and White. I imagine the Bistre there is equivalent to the sepia here. I would advise you do the same for this kind of pencil.Again: these two pencils are two different media and the sanguine is not the right color, not sanguine.

This pencil is great!

I used the sanguine sketching pencil to outline human figures and blend with oil colored pencils. It gave a strong outline and the pencils sharpen beautifully.
