Flawed but still my favorite

Comments about Pentel Mechanical Pencil:
I'm not sure I should write this as I use the 0.9mm lead and Blick only sells the thinner 0.5 and 0.7 but those are too thin for my ham fisted writing. However, I use these exclusively and have for forty years. I love the reliable performance. To avoid losing them to friends, I draw a pencil line on a Scotch tape band around them. I keep a half dozen in my drawer just in case I lose them and always have one in my shirt pocket. The biggest down side is that after many erasings, the eraser eventually pushes down and into the plastic tube to where it's gets lost. Years of service and then I toss them.Reloading is rarely a problem but I do recall that happening. I just load it up and keep going. Maybe some have a funky internal funnel that funks up on reloading. I just move on.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

OK but no frills
from San Antonio, TX
I used this pencil for a while and just didn't like it for doing basic sketches. I found I much preferred a thicker lead for sketching as this leaves too hard a line. It also is rather no frills and not as comfortable to hold.

A basic tool for drawing and drafting
By Leica Mike
from Seaford, NY
After more than 20 years using this kind of pencil, it is my go-to choice for most fine drawing tasks and for drafting. It is reliable, easy to fix the jams and lead breaks (which do happen, and it really saves time. The tiny eraser on the end is nearly useless. Always have a large vinyl eraser at hand.

This is an okay, no-frills mechanical pencil, closer to something you'd use in junior high than a professional artist's tool. There's no heft to the shaft at all. I'm only using it occasionally so it's fine for my purposes but I don't know how it would stand up to daily use. Given the chance to do it over again, I'd spend the extra couple of dollars to get a more heavyweight, durable pencil instead.

Cheap, but quality.
I've always found big, bulky mechanical pencils to be a nuisance. The big soft rubber grips, the thick shaft, it makes me feel like I'm using a marker or a large pen. This one is about as thin as a pencil, but doesn't feel like a cheap hunk o junk like the BIC brand. I may not use mechanical pencils anymore, as I've converted to Palomino Blackwings. But if I had to choose a mechanical pencil, it would definitely be this one.
Just like old jeans that fit perfectly
from Crystal River, FL
This may not be the fanciest or even the best mechanical pencil, but it's the one I've used for years and it's been so reliable. I threw all kinds of abuse at my old one... lost the top ages ago and dropped it so many times. And it still works just fine. All I really needed was that eraser cover because I was smashing the erasers down into the pencil. It's a great price, it's sturdy and lasts forever, and it's comfortable. I was so glad I could find the same pencil I know and love!
best for drawing
The pen has a comfortable feel , even for a few hours of drawing. But the best thing is the pocket clip is removable! The other makes don't allow. this. It acts so much more like a regular pencil w/ the clunky clip off:-)

the perfect pencil
this is the perfect mechanical pencil... durable, lightweight and it feels great in your hand; i never feel that the grip is hard on my fingers, even after long use. also, the erasers last a long time as you can advance them up through the metal sleeve.

I find it a little expensive, but the pencil itself works fine. Very nice for portrait drawing.
Great pencil~!!! Thin, sturdy and light
By Mechanical pencil FAN

I use this pencil for writing, its my favorite and i find myself just reaching for it naturally. The pencil is basically thin, sturdy and light. It looks great too! The eraser is a little small but it has a needle in case the lead is jammed. The only problem (which you'll eventually get use to after using it longer) is the rather hard grip. But, its a really great pencil to have with you all the time for any writing or drafting =)
