Sofft tools have been specifically developed for use with PanPastel soft pastels. Versatile, inexpensive, and reusable, these tools can also be used with most water-based art and craft materials, including watercolor and acrylic paint, to create exciting new techniques, marks, and effects. Finished effects are different than those achieved with brushes, as the brush stroke is completely eliminated.
Invented by artists, for artists, this is a new generation of tools and applicators for artists and crafters. Each product in the Sofft range was developed in a laboratory setting, and extensively test and re-tested in an art studio. This has resulted in a selection of unique professional quality artists’ tools. The shape of each Sofft Tool has been designed for a specific purpose, ranging from achieving fine details and gestural marks to quickly blocking in large areas of color, such as backgrounds. In addition, the tools are perfect for difficult to reach places on craft projects. Sofft Tools enable a more direct connection with the working surface, making it easier to control and predict the final marks achieved. They instantly feel comfortable to use, and many users find them easier to use than a brush.
Sofft Tools can be used with a variety of mediums, from pastels and charcoal to artists’ acrylics, watercolors, and ceramic glazes. They’re great for a wide variety of fine art, craft, and hobby applications, including applying gesso, smoothing polymer clay, painting, paper crafts, scrapbooking, stenciling, rubber stamping, model making, and ceramics.
Sofft Applicators feature a replaceable head. Additional applicator heads can be purchased separately. This tool is ideal for blending, softening edges, and applying colors in difficult to reach areas. Mini Applicators are smaller in size and do not have detachable heads.
Made of the same semi-absorbent material used in Sofft Covers, Art Sponges have been specially formulated for art and craft applications. They hold and release just the right amount of material, and are non-abrasive for smooth, uniform results. These hand-held sponges can be used for applying color, quickly blocking in large areas of color, blending colors and materials, manipulating paint, creating backgrounds, underpainting, double and triple loading colors, sponging out watercolors and acrylics, and building up smooth layers of color. Art Sponge Bars Mix contains one each Round, Flat, Point, and Wedge sponges.
This pack contains 44 pieces, including four knives, 16 covers (including four each Round, Flat, Oval, and Point), one applicator with four replacement heads, 12 mini applicators, and seven art sponges (including one each Wedge Bar, Point Bar, Round Bar, Flat Bar, Round Angle Slice, Flat Angle Slice, and Big Oval).
Sofft Covers are sized to fit Sofft Knives and Shapers, transforming them into absorbent tools capable of carrying and releasing color and material in a unique way. Covers are made from specially formulated, semi-absorbent micropore sponge, which is non-abrasive for smooth, uniform results. With PanPastel Colors, the covers can be reused several times (the number of times depends on the type of color and surface being used).
When the covers are used with Sofft Knives, they can be used for applying or blending color, manipulating paint, double and triple loading color, softening hard edges, applying smooth layers of material, and applying colors in hard to reach areas.
Sofft has transformed the traditional painting knife into a multi-use and absorbent applicator for art and craft techniques. When used with Sofft Covers, these inexpensive tools function like a cross between a brush and a knife. Each ergonomically designed knife fits in the hand for ease of use and good control. Sofft Knives are made of a flexible, durable plastic material, with handles that are shaped like traditional wooden handled knives for maximum comfort. Knives can also be used without Sofft Covers as traditional painting knives. Each of the four Sofft knives — No. 1 Round, No. 2 Flat, No. 3 Oval, and No. 4 Point — has a Sofft Cover specially designed to fit it.
For use with PanPastels and waterbased media, this set includes seven Sofft tools, including a No. 3 oval knife, five No. 3 oval covers, a sponge bar, and an angle slice round.

Fabulous blender tool!
from Edmond, Oklahoma
I use Sofft Tools for blending with colored pencil and blender. It is very smooth and makes the joy of colored pencil even greater because you can see your work bloom!
I tried using various other tools from cosmetic sponges to pipe insulation but these tools are designed for the PanPastels and work the best with them. I like the broad tools for quickly laying down base colors. Then I switch to my soft stick pastels. They go well together.
Produces great effects for charcoal

This product is great for using with the Pan Pastels - I use it for charcoal value sketches of landscapes I want to paint.
It's Good to Buy Extra Sofft Tools and Sponges
from Pemberton, NJ
I ordered an extra set of Sofft Tools and some extra sponges and applicators from Blick. I really like them, but on sanded and heavily textured paper the sponges get worn down quickly. Also repeated use of cleaning and reusing the applicators and sponges will also break down the soft little applicator tips.Still, the Pan Pastels work best with these applicators. I have also discovered from other artists that the Sofft Applicators work well to apply Colored Pencil Blender Powder. Just dab a tiny bit of powder on a clean applicator spatula sponge, amd work the powder into the surface of the applied colored pencil for best results.I am satisfied with my purchase of the Sofft Tools and will be purchasing them often as I love using my Pan Pastels and my colored pencils in most of my art pieces.#Sweepstakes
This is a multifunctional product I'll buy again
I bought these after a search for a better way to blend using the powdered colored pencil blender. This tool is perfect, giving the desired length and coverage for blending backgrounds and the different cover shapes help you blend in tight areas, as well. Am so glad I tried this product!
from Saginaw, Mi
These are so much easier to use than my fingers or the paper sticks. Having such a huge selection of shapes and sizes is great! There is definitely a small learning curve, but once you get a handle on using them, you can create some beautiful work!
Nice, but don't wear well
Nice for blending and laying in pan pastels, but the foam doesn't wear very well, especially with charcoal or moderatley textured paper. Within a few strokes, the foam starts to disintegrate and leave little particles on the drawing.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
