Sofft tools have been specifically developed for use with PanPastel soft pastels. Versatile, inexpensive, and reusable, these tools can also be used with most water-based art and craft materials, including watercolor and acrylic paint, to create exciting new techniques, marks, and effects. Finished effects are different than those achieved with brushes, as the brush stroke is completely eliminated.
Invented by artists, for artists, this is a new generation of tools and applicators for artists and crafters. Each product in the Sofft range was developed in a laboratory setting, and extensively test and re-tested in an art studio. This has resulted in a selection of unique professional quality artists’ tools. The shape of each Sofft Tool has been designed for a specific purpose, ranging from achieving fine details and gestural marks to quickly blocking in large areas of color, such as backgrounds. In addition, the tools are perfect for difficult to reach places on craft projects. Sofft Tools enable a more direct connection with the working surface, making it easier to control and predict the final marks achieved. They instantly feel comfortable to use, and many users find them easier to use than a brush.
Sofft Tools can be used with a variety of mediums, from pastels and charcoal to artists’ acrylics, watercolors, and ceramic glazes. They’re great for a wide variety of fine art, craft, and hobby applications, including applying gesso, smoothing polymer clay, painting, paper crafts, scrapbooking, stenciling, rubber stamping, model making, and ceramics.
Applicators — Sofft Applicators feature a replaceable head. Additional applicator heads can be purchased separately. This tool is ideal for blending, softening edges, and applying colors in difficult to reach areas. Mini Applicators are smaller in size and do not have detachable heads.
Combo Pack — This pack contains 44 pieces, including four knives, 16 covers (including four each Round, Flat, Oval, and Point), one applicator with four replacement heads, 12 mini applicators, and seven art sponges (including one each Wedge Bar, Point Bar, Round Bar, Flat Bar, Round Angle Slice, Flat Angle Slice, and Big Oval).
Starter Set — For use with PanPastels and waterbased media, this set includes seven Sofft tools, including a No. 3 oval knife, five No. 3 oval covers, a sponge bar, and an angle slice round.
Art Sponges — Made of the same semi-absorbent material used in Sofft Covers, Art Sponges have been specially formulated for art and craft applications. They hold and release just the right amount of material, and are non-abrasive for smooth, uniform results. These hand-held sponges can be used for applying color, quickly blocking in large areas of color, blending colors and materials, manipulating paint, creating backgrounds, underpainting, double and triple loading colors, sponging out watercolors and acrylics, and building up smooth layers of color. Art Sponge Bars Mix contains one each Round, Flat, Point, and Wedge sponges.
Covers — Sofft Covers are sized to fit Sofft Knives and Shapers, transforming them into absorbent tools capable of carrying and releasing color and material in a unique way. Covers are made from specially formulated, semi-absorbent micropore sponge, which is non-abrasive for smooth, uniform results. With PanPastel Colors, the covers can be reused several times (the number of times depends on the type of color and surface being used). When the covers are used with Sofft Knives, they can be used for applying or blending color, manipulating paint, double and triple loading color, softening hard edges, applying smooth layers of material, and applying colors in hard to reach areas.
Knives — Sofft has transformed the traditional painting knife into a multi-use and absorbent applicator for art and craft techniques. When used with Sofft Covers, these inexpensive tools function like a cross between a brush and a knife. Each ergonomically designed knife fits in the hand for ease of use and good control. Sofft Knives are made of a flexible, durable plastic material, with handles that are shaped like traditional wooden handled knives for maximum comfort. Knives can also be used without Sofft Covers as traditional painting knives. Each of the four Sofft knives — No. 1 Round, No. 2 Flat, No. 3 Oval, and No. 4 Point — has a Sofft Cover specially designed to fit it.
