Welcome to dickblick
Old Holland has been making artist colors since 1664, making it one of the oldest continuously operating companies in the art supplies industry. The company is known for uncompromising adherance to traditional techniques and standards.
All color making is done by hand, and all processes are controlled by artists. Pigments are ground in stone rather than metal rollers.
Old Holland Oils are produced according to traditional recipes, those used for paintings made in the 17th century. These paintings retain the clarity of their colors to this day. That's durability.
Like hundreds of years ago, only the best pigments and binders are used to produce very concentrated and light-fast paint, resulting in higher color strength, hiding power, and intensity. That goes for all 168 colors listed here.
Only cold-pressed linseed oil from the first pressing is used for the binder. This optimizes oxidation (drying) of the paint and also promotes permanence. The brush strokes flow out better too.

Vibrant concentrated colors
By Kat Black
from Swampscott, MA
Vibrant, clear colors with excellent coverage (particularly helpful when I need to cover the canvas quickly in a plein air setting). A stiff, concentrated paint that I can either thin out or pile on. Higher priced, but a little goes a long way--vs other brands that seem to have fillers (resulting in dull colors) or too much oil.
Old Holland is rich with pigments. It goes much further.
from Arlington, MA
When I use other oil paints, I need more from the tube to make up for all the fillers. With Old Holland, it is rich with pigments and I use much less from the tube.

Old Holland oil paints are creamy and have good pigment power.
Old Holland gray is subtle for delicate effects. Indian orange is vibrant while transparent. Titanium white is clear and strong.Where are the three canvases I was supposed to get for buying three tubes?

Old Holland's magenta is more heavily loaded with pigment and more versatile than any other magenta or alizarin that I've ever used.
Best Pigment Load

Old Holland Paints are PREMIUM. Due to the high pigment load you definitely get your bang for your buck as they last a long time. They are rich, highly saturated and top of the line.

Top quality product.
from Anderson, IN
Cost is a factor as Old Holland is expensive. Nonetheless, the high amount of pigmentation comes in very handy at times and allows the paint to go further than any other,
