Better than I had expect it to be.
By Artsy Ez

I use this product for my personal use. I see it as a regular sketchbook, but it is amazing to work with. It takes pen really well and I use a matte finish spray for charcoal and pencil art pieces. The size is big which is really good if you are doing big pieces. I would buy another one again.

Moleskin Coldpress Portfolio
By Finn Graves
from Portland, Oregon
I am using this specific Moleskin Watercolor Coldpress Portfolio as a second/third step sketchbook portfolio. As an artist, when I work, my work goes through many processes. Thumbnails, slashes of color, conceptual sketches, etc before settling on the main piece on illustration board. So this portfolio is for the stage right before I hit the smooth, cold press illustration board. I have less control in here, but that reminds me, I can only control myself, and other than that, the world keeps moving along doing its thing. What is great about it: Texture. Slightly grainy, almost smooth enough for illustration. Professional looking. What sucks: Price. The cost is a reach for me, but Happy Solstice artist self. You've done so much work this year.
The paper is Smooth for drawing.
The paper the is very smooth good for drawing, but is overpriced and when you erased it leaves you some kind of white marks.

I have bought Moleskine Folio Sketchbooks for several years. In 2012 their pages still had a exquisite yellowish tone. In 2013 Moleskine changed the color of the paper; first, a plain creamy yellowish color appeared and then, a horrible grayish tone was the constant in the paper. I wrote to Moleskine asking why they committed this yellow crime and never got an answer. Two weeks ago I bought a new one an the miracle happened: the exquisite yellowish tone was present again in the sketchbook. I tried to buy more but Blick is out of stock and they will be available again at the end of April. So, the big question is: are the new ones going to come with the tone that tons of people fell in love with (there are complains all over the web about the change of color) or are they going to bring again a terrible surprise? Let's see if the rating goes from one to five stars, and the sketchbook becomes a solid value and the best in its category again...
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not a Watercolor Album
from baltimore, MD
It said "Watercolor Album-Aquarelle". It was sealed in plastic and I didn't get to inspect the paper. I trusted Moleskine to figure this out. Unfortunately, it's not for watercolor. MAYBE aquarelle watercolor pencil with very minor wetting. This is just for sketching. The paper is very thin and cream colored.

Great if you never erase
from philadelphia, pa
I LOVE the design of this folio sketchbook; the size, the binding (as I absolutely detest spiral bound), the smooth cover, rounded corners, and perhaps most of all, elastic closure & folder in the back are all wonderful. Everything about a moleskine that you love, in a larger format, right? Wrong. The ONLY (and pretty major) drawback is the paper quality is extremely sub par (at least in the sketchbook, not sure about the watercolor paper)- and the fact that when you erase, the cream colored paper discolors and becomes stark, glaringly white. Not sure what's going on here, but as an artist, I really don't like it. As such, it's become more of a diary than a sketchbook, which is fine, but not what it was intended for. Overall, disappointed, and looking for a replacement.Definitely in the market for another sketchbook with this design but with actual artist-quality paper.

Inconsistent paper quality
from southeastern PA
I purchased an A4 size folio sketchbook based on my satisfaction with an A3 that I've nearly filled with pencil drawings. To my dismay, the paper is not the same. Not because the product is supposed to be different, but because of inconsistent sourcing of paper by Moleskine's contract suppliers, as far as I can tell. Both look the same, but the weight, absorbency, and texture are not. A real disappointment for such an expensive product.

from Thorofare, NJ
I purchased this item looking for a nice book that I could carry and have as a nice piece on the bookshelf when full. The problem that I have with it is the paper turns white when you erase a misplaced pencil mark. I have tried just about ever type of eraser I can think of and they all leave white streaks. Do a search on Google and you will find I am not the only one complaining about this.

Perfect! Full sized Moleskins at last!
from Frisco, Texas
I love the full sized moleskins. Especially the watercolor moleskin. The paper is great. I do not prefer spirals and it is hard to find quality paper in sketchbooks without spirals.
