Valuable reference tools for figure studies and still life compositions (as well as intriguing decorative objects in their own right), these classic 3-D sculptures are small and lightweight, making them ideal for classroom use.
Each sculpture is sculpted in three dimensions. All are great for learning portraiture and drawing techniques.
The Mini Torino Studio Sculptures are made of a combination of Titanium Dioxide, white gesso powder, Calcium Carbonate, and Gypsona.
Fixed on a base, this sculpture of a human head helps artists gain a better understanding of facial anatomy, muscles, and proportions.
Head of David, Julius Caesar, and Socrates
Fixed on a base, these sculpted heads depicting Michelangelo's David, Julius Caesar, and Socrates not only provide model human faces but also bring history into your projects by providing examples from the Renaissance, Ancient Rome, and Classical Greece, respectively.
This upright sculpture of a skull is useful for studying bone structure.

Decent for practice
from Fairfax, VA
Comments about Mini Torino Studio Sculptures:
I am relatively new to sculpture and wanted some 3-D models to practice from at home. For the price, these are decent replicas of the original works, and suit my purpose. One comment, the miniature head labeled "Socrates" is actually a miniature replica of Seneca. In the grand scheme of things not a big deal, but figured since I was prompted to give a review I would point this out.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Mini Torino Studio Sculptures

These mini head casts are great for practicing drawing and painting heads at home. (They probably would be too small for a classroom setting.) They have enough detail to see the planes of the face, and one can also practice putting in form and cast shadow shading under different illumination settings. The sale price on Dick Blick was the best price I could find online. And the were carefully packaged, so there was no damage in shipping.I'm very happy with my purchase of two Mini Torino Studio Sculptures.

It's Good to own this
from Kansas city, Ks
This is about the size of an average hand, which makes it really portable, and it also complements wherever you set it on.This definitely helps my drawing.
Rodin sculpture very soft.
It's very scant on details as compared to the photo shown. Possibly useful for gesture studies to check proportions. That's the purpose I had in mind at purchase.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Low quality material but nice model.
from BR, la
Extremely chalky. It fell over once and flattened the nose. It is just to soft of a material, but the details are good and if rarely handled it could last.

A wonderful thing that needs some polish
from Chicago, Illinois
I bought the Head of david today. At first glance it is very attractive and unique. However, before buying, I recommend that you first look at the detail of the face and of the ear. Most face has those pieces / tiny balls of plaster at the corner of the lip, the eye and the nose that kinda make it look odd. The ears may have nicks.I bought this piece for the purpose of displaying, I made those recommendations if you are buying it for the same purpose. It's true it needs to be "cleaned up". since it is a porous material I am trying to figure out how to best protect it from dust, scratches and stain as well as what tools to use to remove excess plaster and erase the "Molding scar" on it's back.

Mini Torino castings
I will be using the head castings as reference sketching tools. I feel the original sculpting was quite good, but I was disapointed in the quality of casting. I will have to put in time "cleaning" them up before I can use them.
