A square tube chrome steel mast means your canvas stays put when you’re working on the furthest edge of a large canvas — no more turning, no more wiggling!
The Avanti I has four adjustable canvas blocks for displaying two paintings or fixing reference material at the top of the mast while you paint. It holds canvases (including gallery-profile canvases) up to 52” high. The base measures 22" wide × 20" deep (56 cm × 51 cm).
This heavy-duty steel working tray attaches to both the Avanti I and Avanti II easels and rotates on a center axis for flexibility and accessibility. Assemble it with the included hardware. The tray measures 19½" W × 26½" H × 12" D (50 cm × 67 cm × 30 cm).

I absolutely love this easel.

Comments about Martin Universal Design Avanti I Square Post Easel:
I first used this easel in drawing class at university. Ever since that class I have never found a more practical and functional easel. Massive wooden easels that are often limited by dimensions they can hold offer nothing more than this easel other than a high price tag and lack of mobility. This easel is truly utilitarian. It just makes sence that I can toss this in a vehicle...take it to a remote location and setup....It works equally well as a display easel. I imagine I will never own another easel. Compact and portable. A space saver in a studio. Out performs wooden easels of similar size. Fantastic product. To the person that previously mentioned it won't stand up... You're obviously employing massive surfaces. I suggest you place a cinder block on the base. I do this outdoors in windy conditions. The only gripe I have is that the threads strip in the mechanism after excessive use...the problem is easily solved by retapping the threads and employing a nut and wrench.

Don't buy this easel

It is a decent concept that was terribly executed. It wobbles and won't stay up straight.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The instructions were terrible, the construction was terrible, the parts were cheap and wobbly. All around just a terrible, terrible product. Don't waste your money.
