Comments about Marabu Easy Marble Paint:
Saw a video of this product and wanted to try it. Blick had the best price I found, and that's important when you are trying a new unknown project. It turned out to be wonderful....as simple as it looked, and after little trial and error, turned out beautiful items.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A work in progress
from North Newton, Kansas, USA
I'm a woodturner and make lots of finger tops. I'm always looking for interesting ways to decorate the tops. I ordered the beginner's set of Marabu marbling paints. My first experience was not the best, but I think I know what to do on the next run of tops. More detailed instructions would be helpful, including what to do IF certain errors occur, and how to avoid what are surely common mistakes. I would have found it useful to be told that the container of water simply acts as an applicator, a brush with ordinary paints. References to YouTube demonstrations--detailed ones--would be useful.

I was really excited to get these and wish I could return them. I had tried paper marbling before and the process was exciting and yielded very nice results. Not so here. As mentioned by the other reviewers - the paint forms a skin on the surface of the water at which point it becomes your design. Any attempt to swirl, will result in the paint sticking to the object with which you're swirling and will lift off in sheets, strings or pieces. If you try to just drip and marble your object - it'll work - but the limitations of bright blobs just don't do it for me. Very disappointed and would not recommend these.

Not worth it.

I have tried several marbling products for paper marbling decorations. This one was not successful, no matter what I tried. While the You Tube videos made it look easy, the product did not perform in the way expected. After dropping the paint onto the water, it created a plastic-like film that would not marble or swirl into patterns. We tried using needles, toothpicks, chopsticks, and finally just blowing on the surface to move the pattern around. The paint stuck to each in clumps and threads and ruined the surface. I can see how it would marble plastic, metal or wood, but if you are looking for a paper marbling product, this is not it. The closest thing I can compare it to is the old fashioned Easter Egg dye kits that marble-swirled the eggs. The most disappointing thing for me was that I excitedly bought all the colors which are virtually useless. Wasted expense. Wish I could return them all.
Too toxic for comfort

While at first glance this product seems wonderful as an easy introduction to marbling, the ingredient list alone should keep you and your family away. Not suitable for use with kids, as the paint stains easily and odors are toxic.

Not for traditional paper marbling

I'm still looking for a nice paper marbling ink -- this was NOT it. I purchased 6 different colors and when I dropped these inks into the water they reacted like sticky nail polish and created a skin on top of the water. When I tried to create patterns in the ink using a toothpicks or metal tipped tool, the inks clung to the tool, lifted off the surface and had to be scrapped. Since I was unable to make patterns with a tool I tried dropping blobs of different colors on the water and blowing on it before marbling the paper; without being able to manipulate the paint the patterns weren't very artistic (random blobs) and the colors on the paper are BRIGHT! The finished result looked like neon hued Easter eggs or psychedelic disco clothes. If you wish to marble paper where you're able to manipulate the ink/paint to create artistic designs, where the colors don't "scream" at you and the paper doesn't end up with a stiff, shiny "skin" on the surface -- then these inks are NOT for you. They're messy too, and I had to use acetone to get it off my fingers and nails when I was done. Very disappointed they didn't work for me and I'm not sure what else I can do with these inks. For me, they were a waste of money and disappointment..
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your candid feedback. We're sorry to hear that these colors were not what you expected. They are solvent-based and very fast drying, ideal for quick crafts. Marabu does recommend working fast because these colors form a film so quickly, and they do require solvent cleanup. Works well for simple projects
By Ruth Morris

The formula is one-step. If you are working to make complicated designs you may find that the paint it sets too quickly and clots when swirling. You have about 4 minutes of work time. This would be best for SMALL projects, under the size of 81/2 x11.I tried it on paper, plastic, birch, all with excellent drying results. MDF and polymer clay surfaces still remained tacky to the touch 48 hours after marbling. Pigment that gets on your skin will stain for 48 hours like enameling paint. On smooth paper the marbling paint drys with a slight sheen. This painted surface did not work well with overlays of marker or micron pen detailing. Sharpies worked OK, but the sharpie pigment color was weakened in vibrancy.
