Welcome to dickblick
This special medium was developed to provide a non-toxic, environmentally responsible alternative to solvent based, rapid drying alkyd mediums. It closely resembles combinations of sun-thickened oil and natural resins used throughout the history of art, but with the advantage of being solvent-free.

A Constant on my Palette
from NW Louisiana
I've used this medium for several years to get my traditional oils to dry. It's a great medium, probably my favorite, and gives me that "happy medium" (ack sorry) of drying time between the frustrating quickness of acrylics and the absurd length of time of traditional oils. The price is excellent on Blick.
Walnut alkyd medium... A+++

A Wonderful Solvent-Free Medium
from Nevada City, CA
I use M. Graham Walnut Alkyd with M. Graham Oil Paints. Both are Walnut Oil based and very fluid. A little Walnut Alkyd goes a long way (the way to use it is "sparingly") and greatly speeds up drying, especially of thin layers. I have used this product in the past with oil paints that were linseed oil based, with equal success. Anyone who values their health -- not just their finished art -- will seriously considering going solvent-free in their oil painting process. There is detailed information about making the switch to solvent-free on the M. Graham website, and a lot more on the internet.

Very good medium but it drys oils quickly
I used to use Liquin but thought that I would try this and it certainly retains the wet look of the colors, after drying. Very good product and great price from Dick Blick.
Dries quickly, but adds some weird drag to your paint
It DOES speed up drying time, usually overnight for dark colors with thin layers. However, it's like painting with pancake syrup. Sticky, adds a weird drag to the paint so it doesn't go on smoothly.

M. Graham Walnut medium
By Carol in AR
Learning to paint in the way that Arletta Pech uses her mediums and cleaners. Nice to have something good for both me and the environment.

the best medium for oil
from Corvallis, OR
Ready-made, no odor, solvent-free, non toxic, fast drying, imparts a nice sheen. Great for glazes. It is flammable, though.

Feeling healthy with walnut alkyd medium
By Ama T.
from Paonia, CO
I'm really glad to have gotten this stuff. It makes me feel good about oil painting with minimal chemicals as M. Graham says the medium itself is food safe. Glossy if used a lot, and not extremely cheap, but I do think it's the best medium out on the market right now, because it doesn't have safflower oil or solvent. Feels good to paint with and has good drying time. Good healthy alternative to helping us stay safe and healthy and keep doing that oil painting we love so much!
