Liquitex Basics Acrylic Gesso is formulated to produce a smooth, absorbent, finely textured ground for painting on most porous surfaces, including canvas, paper, fabric, wood, or plaster.   This gesso does not require thinning for proper consistency. It dries in minutes to a non-yellowing, brilliant white. It's suitable for use with Liquitex Basics and other student-grade acrylic paints.

A ready-mixed painting ground, Liquitex Acrylic Gessos prime surfaces and add the right level of tooth for optimum color stability, adhesion, and absorbency. Apply to stiffen canvas and provide an archival base to a wide variety of supports and surfaces, including canvas, paper, and wood. 

Suitable for use with a variety of mediums, including graphite, pencil, charcoal, acrylic and oil paints and mediums, and chalk and oil pastels, Liquitex Acrylic Gessos can be used undiluted or thinned with up to 25% water - when thinning more than 25%, use an equal mixture of water and Liquitex Matte Medium.

Liquitex Acrylic Gessos are available in a variety of colors, including:

__Black__ – Primes surfaces while adding an optimal level of texture and provides a matte Black, opaque base that eliminates surface color.

__Neutral Gray__ – Primes surfaces while adding an optimal level of texture and provides a matte Neutral Gray, opaque base that eliminates surface color. 

__White__ – A classic Titanium White acrylic ground that primes surfaces while adding an optimum level of tooth.

__Clear__ – Adds a high-tooth, matte finish to surfaces while keeping the original surface visible.

__Super Heavy Gesso__ - An impasto Titanium White gesso that holds its sculptural shape until dry. Super Heavy Gesso has all the attributes of traditional acrylic gesso and is ideal for thick and sculptural applications with knife or brush.

Liquitex Basics Acrylic Colors were developed for students and artists who require dependable quality at an economical price. Each color is uniquely formulated to bring out the maximum brilliance and clarity of the individual pigment.


These acrylics have a buttery consistency for easy blending, a medium viscosity, and are made with lightfast fine art pigments. They dry to a satin finish, eliminating surface glare.

Liquitex Basics Acrylic Varnishes are a waterbased, permanent varnish for acrylic paints.  Use as a final, non-removable, layer on finished works to prevent UV damage, resist decoloration, and protect it from dirt and dust. 

Available in Gloss or Matte finishes, both options dry clear with a flexible, durable, and non-tacky surface. The Gloss Varnish will increase brightness and color saturation, while the Matte Varnish is a great option for artwork that will be photographed.
