I came over here to blick because i got an awl from another retailer which i assumed was a knock-off of the real thing so when this awl came in it turned out to be exactly the same as the one i had originally (in which the entire needle fell out after two books i made) and if i remember correctly the other one was in better condition than this one! I am not at all satisfied with this. the needle is glued in crookedly and the finish on the handle is very rough. the overall quality of this is very mediocre as the metal used is very soft. do not buy this!
Merchant response: We are sorry to hear that the awl you received is defective. A member of our Customer Care team will be contacting you shortly to see if we can help you with a return or exchange for another product that may better meet your needs.
useless, tip bends
from Philly, PA
a friend and I had both bought one of these, within a few holes the tip was ruined (Bend!!!). We had bought it for the big handle as it would rest nicely in the the hand. A different awl finished the job without difficulty. The steel is way to soft in this awl to puncture anything more then single sheets. Go and buy a professional awl, this is not one.
Merchant response: We are sorry to hear that your awl did not perform as expected. The manufacturer states that this awl should easily punch through 2-3 sheets of paper at a time. If you have additional sheets, you will need to separate them prior to punching. We would be happy to replace your defective awl so that you may try another. Please give our Customer Care team a call at 1-800-723-2787 so we can help you with an exchange!

Could Be Better
from Boston, MA
I've been through two of these awls in under a year, they're lame. I use them because most art supply stores sell Lineco awls only, so they're what I have access to. The metal is cheap, and the handle is very awkward for anything I would actually use a heavy duty awl for (ex: stab binding). Blick doesn't allow me to name names, but there are other places online where you can buy sturdier awls and get a MUCH better deal. Just know that in general, Lineco (and most other brands you find in art supply stores) is almost always overpriced and "eh" quality. If you're even a little bit serious about bookbinding, you're going to be disappointed. Look for somewhere that sells ONLY bookbinding supplies, you'll get more for your money that way.
