Comments about Krylon Gallery Series Fine Art Fixitif:
I was pleased that the Fixitif did not change any of the colors of the pastels. It dried quickly, too.

Good news, bad news
from Pacific Coast
Based on the product description and the reviews, I decided to buy this as a pastel final fixative because other things I tried always destroyed whites and highlights. The bad news is that this didn't do much better than other fixatives - in fact the cheap alcohol (not water) based hairspray I often use works just as well as this and costs less. See pics below for before and after. It's not terrible, but there is a color/highlight shift which required me to go back over highlights and brights which defeats the purpose of a fixative, since there's now fresh unprotected pastel on the paper again. The good news is that in re-doing part of the painting, I discovered that this is a terrific workable fixative. Two light coats, about 10 minutes apart, and I was able to go over even the darkest colors with light colors. There was plenty of tooth to not just touch up, but completely change areas, if one wanted or needed to. Also, the two light coats were adequate as a final coat as well. The finger test picked up no pastel dust.I guess I will have to spring for the more expensive pastel fixatives in order to preserve highlights, but I will still be able to use this for a workable fixative to correct mistakes to make modifications.(PS Sorry I'm not the greatest photographer - the images aren't totally straight and lined up, but the colors can still be compared - taken under identical lighting conditions minutes apart).
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

It seals the medium and preserves the work. Oddly it is also VERY hard to find in my area.

This is the best spray for pastels and easiest to use of all of them. The colors do not darken and the lights do not disappear.

I do lots of drawing. Sometimes (especially with charcoal) I just have to stop and move on. So I sign and date and fix with Krylon. I don't use Krylon product which allows reworking. If I don't like drawing, my solution is just to start a new version and move on. Otherwise, I will end up working on drawing for weeks or months which is just not productive (for me.)
