Create colorful, funky swirl patterns on paper, fabric, and more with Jacquard Marbling Kits. The traditional art of marbling is a great way to apply beautiful colors. Each application is one of a kind.
Kits are easy to use and give professional-quality results. Experiment with making patterned fabric, unique wrapping paper, greeting cards, fine art, and more.
Jacquard Marbling Colors spread equally on the marbling size and produce beautiful, intense color. On fabric, the paints are soft to the touch and completely washable after heat setting. On other porous and semi-porous surfaces, the paints have excellent adhesion.

Pretty good stuff
Comments about Jacquard Marbling Starter Kit:
I used this with my art club to create marbled sketchbook covers. The kids loved it and were able to handle doing it on their own (4th and 5th graders) once I gave visual direction. The box came with directions that were mostly helpful. One problem was the bag of carrageenan had slightly different directions than the general directions in the box. It comes with gall, but it lacks any information about how or why to use it.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the marbling class pack. We apologize for any issues with the instructions. Either method for mixing the carrageenan will yield the correct concentration for marbling. The gall can be added to the marbling colors to increase their spread and coverage, and can be diluted to add to the size for clear voids and other effects. Really fun and easy to use
This is the first time I've tried marbling. This kit takes some preparation to use (making the size, soaking the paper in mordant), but the directions are good, and you get a lot of bang for your buck. I tried many different papers, and the best by far was the Yasutomo sketch paper, but other mulberry papers would probably work nicely too. A few notes: it's imperative that the size be thick enough. My first session, I must have skimped on the carrageenan, and the inks didn't float well. It should be slightly viscous, noticeably thicker than water. Secondly, the directions call for 4 Tbsp Alum per quart of water, but I found that this amount didn't dissolve completely. I use 2 Tbsp per quart, and it works perfectly.
Iwould buy this product again.

Works well with practice
By Art teacher in Erie

I use this kit to teach at a community art center, and, although there was some trial and error involved at the beginning, I have had excellent results with this marbling kit. As far as prep, I spray alum on the paper in advance so I have a supply on hand, and Methocel can be mixed up as little as an hour ahead of time. As long as you practice first to familiarize yourself with the process and variables, it's a wonderful, engaging lesson. My students love marbling!

NOT for starters or elemantry grades
By Mrs. K

I teach elementary art and heard about making Suminagashi prints so I searched for a starter kit. I purchased 2 of these since they were the "best value" of all offered on DickBlick.com. The moment I took them out of the box I knew I was in trouble. There are additives you need to spray on the paper days in advance, there are additives you need to mix days in advance for the water. TOO MUCH HASSLE FOR ME! I want a simple project I can handle with 25 students. I will most likely return this a purchase the more expensive and SIMPLE ink kit.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Did not work well for me at all
By Sharifa Blackwolf
from Minneapolis MN
I had bought this product in December 2010 and had not used it till about 5 months later. This could be why my results turned out the way they did. At first the ink was very difficult to squeeze out of the tubes, and I was not able to unscrew the tip to pour the ink out. Then once the ink hit the water, some of the ink would not spread and would come out very clumpy. I didn't have a problem with the red ink, but just about every color either wouldn't come out of the tube, or would come out very clumpy, resulting in blobs of ink on my paper. Also, when I would lay my paper on the ink, the inks were not vibrant and very cloudy and watered down. The instructions were not well written at all, I had to read them frequently. I was very unsatisfied with this product, and was dissapointed with my results and the overall process of marbling.
