Excellent watercolor brush
from Newton Ctr., MA
Comments about Isabey Red Sable Round Brush Series 6223:
Top notch point, slim handle, holds good quantity of paint. Perfect for detail work. Huge difference compared to other very good watercoloR brushes. Worth the price for serious painters.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Isabey sable brushes not what they used to be
By Black Pot
I bought my 1st Isabey #6223 sable brush (size #6) a few years ago, and it continues to be my favorite watercolor brush. It holds a beautiful point and is very responsive. I'd thought I'd found the perfect brush. This year I asked for several Isabey 6223 brushes as a gift; 2 bigger and 3 smaller. And, sadly, they are nothing like the original one. While the original Isabey holds a fine point, the new ones spread out like frizzy hair and can't make a point no matter how hard I try. I'm heartbroken because the total cost for the purchase was a fair amount of money. I've been told that the reason for the difference is that the original was manufactured in France for many years where the workers had years of experience, but the manufacturing has been moved to Africa.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Merchant response: Thank you for your review. We're sorry if there has been any misconception about the manufacturing of these brushes. Although we understand the temptation to blame a change in location, workers in Mauritius (an island off the coast of Africa) have been manufacturing some Isabey and Raphael brush lines for more than 30 years. The photo you present as evidence of poor quality shows a brush that's fluffed out as we would expect it to be when it's dry. As always, your satisfaction is important to us, and we're happy to work with you to rectify any issues with brush performance. We hope you'll feel welcome to work with our Product Specialists on this issue. Just call 1-800-933-2542 (8am-5:30pm CST M-F) or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Good signing brush
This brush has body and a good fine point. I use it for signing my oil paintings.

I am in love
By Carol in South Shore
from Chicago, IL
I bought the size 4 at my local store last week. This brush is so responsive, it is like dancing with Ginger Rogers. It follows my lead effortlessly. Lightly loaded, I can get a half-millimeter line form the tip without even trying. It hold a ton of paint and can color the teeniest angles perfectly.Where have you been all my life? I should have invested in a great brush decades ago.
Just what i wanted
This is a quality brush that i depend on for detail work. Its seems to be getting hard to find Isabey in the short handle. I love it.

Great Brush for Miniatures
from New York, NY
I tried this brush recently after having used Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes for years. I use them to paint miniatures, but they have been harder to find recently. Additionally, I use Raphael Series 8404 brushes. This Isabey Series 6223 was a great addition to my brush collection and is my new favorite brush! The sizes run a bit smaller so I use a size 4 (versus the size 2 I usually use in the W&N and Raphael brushes). But the brush holds a great amount of paint and still maintains a perfect point. Price also compared favorably to the W&N and Raphael. This is an awesome brush overall; as soon as I started using it I ordered a few more and recommended it to my friends...
