Comments about Indigo Art Papers Indigo Artpapers Handmade Watercolor Paper:
I finished some lovely pieces on this paper, but had major troubles when I tried to pick up frisket. The paper tore up quite badly. The watercolors looked very good, however, except for the ones I had to throw out because the paper shredded from the frisket. I love the deckle around all edges, even the very small pieces I bought. So I plan to keep these in stock but will be careful with technique.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

300 lb vs 140 lb
Absolutely love the 300lb- a delight to work with... beautiful paper.BUTThe 140 lb is an entirely different story... its liking painting on chalk. Absorbs the paint luke a sponge and it's impossible to move the paint around after an initial pass. What in the world makes these so different? I'd love to have a 140lb that had a surface like the 300lb.So bummed!
Merchant response: Thank you for your review! What you describe doesn't actually sound characteristic of the 140 lb. paper. The 300 lb. has a slightly harder surface, but the 140 lb. should not have the extreme absorbency you experienced. We'd like the opportunity to work with you to determine whether the paper you received is defective so we can replace if needed. Please contact us in Product Information at 1-800-933-2542, and we'll be happy to troubleshoot!

pilled up, it was like painting on a rag. Unsuitable, I'll stick with Arches!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not my favorite
from Melbourne, Fl.
Maybe it's me, but I find it difficult to paint on. This paper seems to suck up the paint and water much too fast. Some may like this, but I like my colors to run more. I hope I learn to use this paper.

We'd love to have some further information about your preferences to determine whether you received defective paper or whether we can suggest an alternative that would be more to your liking. I purchased the 140 lb and found it very difficult to paint on. There were so many "nubs" that looked terrible when the painting was finished. I'll stick to my Arches 140 lb!

Indigo watercolor paper
from Sarasota Fl
It has a nice quality for my artwork
from Pittsburgh, PA
This paper is awesome. Heavy-duty. With some gesso, I can paint, gesso, and paint again--if need be. I am getting a lot of use out of a single sheet; therefore, this is a great value. I do not think you will be disappointed. I will be ordering some more in the future.

This paper has a wonderful handmade feel to it. It was so sturdy that I had to break down a full sheet with a knife. It was great for the wet on wet work I was doing. The unfinished edges are interesting and I think it would display well when framed.

This is the good stuff! Quality is amazing and the paper is very bright white. Texture is luxurious! You open the box and the paper begs to be painted!! Get some, you'll be happy!!

Love This Paper!

Painting on this paper really helps break the tendency to paint too "tight," and painterly effects seem to come more naturally. I have found that the paint dries quite a bit lighter than I would expect, so need to use less water. It also won't stand up to masking tape or miskit, but when you're trying to loosen up, that's probably a good thing! In any case, it compares very favorably to other handmade Indian papers I have used. I love this paper, and I'd recommend it to anyone.
