Jack Richeson = inferior quality compared to AMPERSAND.
from Decatur, IL
Comments about Hardboard Panels:
I don't know when Blick decided to switch over and start selling this inferior type of hardboard panel, but I'm very disappointed in it. I expected to receive my usual Ampersand brand that they always ship me and instead I received these Jack Richeson boards instead. 6 out of the 8 I purchased received shipping damage in transit. The boards all have soft corners on them and they are more flexible (easy to bend...which is something I don't like) when compared to the Ampersand brand that they used to stock. I plan on shopping elsewhere the next time I need hardboard panels.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The 18" x 24" hardboard is used as a backboard for my pastel paper. It is 1/8" thick, so is easy to attach a reference photo to it, yet is sturdy enough to maintain the right ridigity when painting. It works well for my needs. It also arrived in very good condition, with no dings on the edges. A minor irritation was trying to get the label removed...it was a challenge. Dick Blick is my preferred art supply store, and they will continue to have my business.

Smooth, clean, perfect.

Acrylic realism painting. I like everything about the board except that I cannot get the labels off without damaging the board. For my application, I need both sides free of labels and glue.

Product is being used as a student breadboard to mount an Arduino Uno microcomputer and a 400 tie-point solderless breadboard.

Nice boards, ruined by sticker and residue
I bought over 50 of these for an art class, and was dismayed to find they were individually labeled with large stickers -- NOT the easily removable kind, but the kind that rips the surface off the panel and leaves sticky gunk behind. Disappointed.

Every one of them had a hard-to-remove label :-(
They are what I use all the time.

Dick Blick is the only site from which I can get these hardboards. They are perfect for my watercolor art, and all sizes I use for my paintings. The cost is such that, if one warps, because of my own doing, it is cheap enough to replace. I have reordered these several times.
I would buy again

Taking watercoloring on the road

I can now take my watercoloring on the road. Looking forward to using these boards to secure my water paper and reduce warping.

I have used these for years. Saves me buying hardboard and cutting it to size even though these pre-cut panels are more expensive. I sand, gesso all sides and paint away. I wonder why they don't come in 12x16 sizes. Also, really, really hate the stickers on the back that are applied with the strongest glue known to mankind. I remove those before applying. .
