You'll love the way pastels and charcoal look when stroked on a soft, velour surface. The colors adhere naturally to the velvety surface, but it is recommended that spray fixative be used often.
Hahnemühle applies velour generously and consistently to a smooth acid-free paper. Individual sheets are approximately 19" × 27" (48 cm × 69 cm). 260 gsm.

I have been buying this product a a couple of years now.

The Hahnemuhle Velour paper makes an excellent paper for drawing pastel chalk animals (dogs being the most prominent pet). It has become a popular gift and buying the paper in large sheets makes it very economical. It is easy to cut to size with a roller cutter (like cutting quilting fabric).

One of my dog drawings on velour paper
Exactly what I needed
from Valparaiso In
I used the paper for matting for abstract art pictures. The paper is so perfectly black it looks like there is nothing there. Like the picture is floating in outer space. Just the effect I wanted.

Furry Texture Grabs Soft Pastel and Holds it in Place
from Pemberton, NJ
Comments about Hahnemühle Premium Velour Pads:
What can I say *negative* about the Hahnemühle Velour Pads?Nothing! The colors are soft and lovely. The paper feels like velvet. I was apprehensive that my PanPastels and CarbOthello Pastel Pencils wouldn't layer very well with this paper because of it's softness. However, much to my surprise - the soft pastel just sticks to this paper. It glides across like melted butter on toast. The velour texture HOLDS the soft pastel color in place and leaves very little wasted pastel dust everywhere. My colors just popped out on the paper. I even applied a clear gesso to my first layer to add more texture, and surprisingly enough, the velour texture still breaks through the gesso layer to hold even more pastel.I'm in love with this paper. It's a bit pricey, but a good product should be more expensive than others, because the production is of the most excellent quality. This paper is NOT flimsy. It can take LOTS of abuse. I'm a bit heavy-handed artist due to advanced arthritis issues in my wrist, but this paper just took every bit of pressure applied by my pastel without a hole, a scratch, or wrinkling up. I would totally recommend this paper for pastel users. This paper is made primarily for pastels. Media such as colored pencils, watercolors, or marker are NOT recommended because of the velvet texture. This soft texture will make placing pigment of other kinds of media that are NOT pastel nearly impossible. I'm not sure about oil or acrylic paint, but I'm certain that the paper will buckle under too much wet media. It buckled a bit with my gesso, but after I blowdried it - it became mostly flat again. But with pastel - OMG! This paper is PERFECT in everyway! I will buy this again when I run out!

Having fun doing furry animals with pastels on this great paper.
Dog drawing medium
Use this paper when drawing dogs/cats with pastel chalk or charcoal. Texture really makes the chalk look more realistic and the drawing come together very quickly.
