These mediums were developed specifically for use with Golden Open Acrylics. Use them to add versatility and extend working time while painting.
Open Acrylics expand the boundaries of acrylic painting, making them suitable for artists whose painting style benefits from extended working time. They can be used for a wide range of techniques, including portraiture, plein air painting, monoprinting, and screenprinting.
Supplied in the same consistency as the Golden Open Acrylic colors. Use it to extend the paints while maintaining their working properties.
Formulated to a lower viscosity than the Golden Open Acrylic colors. Use it to extend the paints when a more fluid mixture is desired to increase flow.
Use this to thin the consistency of paint mixes, or to maintain and adjust the workability of colors on the palette without the use of water mist and moisturizing palettes.

Comments about Golden Open Acrylic Mediums:
I mix this medium with Golden Extra Heavy Medium to get more working time on the pallet. It's really great!

I am experimenting with the Golden Open Products and really like the versatility of working into the paint.

I use this medium with the Open Golden Acrylic paints. Much easier than the fast drying acrylics.

Back to buttery

I love this gel, as well as all of the open products from golden. I cam from oil painting so there was quite a learning curve with acrylics. My main complaint at first was that oils are a pleasure to use, so creamy and smooth, and acrylics, out of the tube, have none of the sensualness. I have found the using open gel, with a bit of Acrylic flow release, and a bit of thinner, and the beuty of application is back. So happy with these open products. I now prefer acrylics over oils because I can adjust how long I want my paint to stay workable.

I use 1/2 Golden Open Thinner and 1/2 Golden Glazing medium and call it the "happy medium". Works excellent for blending and extending working time with Golden Heavy Body acrylics.
I'm more open to Open Acrylics
By Sue the Student
Open acrylics and mediums give me more flexibility when using acrylics. I'm so glad I gave them a change. Now my favorite acrylics to use in my classes.

It works but it's still plastic and gloppy
from Cape Cod, Massachusetts
I used this medium with Golden Open acrylics when looking for a way to do plein air paintings that would dry quickly. Normally, I paint in oils. I thought this "gel" would be a gel, but really it's just a thickish glop that doesn't hold it's shape at all if you put a blob of it on your palette. It's actually about the same consistency as the Open acrylic paint, so it doesn't help the texture of the paint at all. I think it does make the paint a bit more translucent. I was rather disappointed in the whole experience and ended up going back to oils with fast dry alkyd mediums.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Matte medium is practically indispensable
Since I tend to mix small amounts of paint, the medium both keeps the paint wet and extends it, particularly if I did not mix quite enough. I also like it for adding transparency to darks. The matte variety dries flat, which I prefer. Finally, it is easy to dispense from the bottle with nozzle.

I had debated whether to purchase this medium for Golden's open product since I already had regular acrylic paint, but I did want the advantage of the extended time the open acrylic gives you. So after doing some research I found Goldens open medium could be mixed with any acrylic paint. So I purchased Golden open acrylic paint in a few of the colors that I needed. I also purchased the open thinner too and the open medium to use with the acrylic paint I already had in my studio. I love that I have more working time especially when using on my gelli plate for mono prints.
