Golden Archival Spray Varnish provides a protective finish layer for fine artwork created with a wide variety of mediums, including acrylics, oils, pastels, watercolors, temperas, and inkjet prints.
It offers excellent dirt-, dust-, and moisture-resistance, and is removable for conservation purposes. It contains ultraviolet light filters and stabilizers (UVLS) to provide archival protection and inhibit light damage. The adjustable fan spray tip allows for precise application with reduced overspray.
Note — When using this product as a final varnish for oil paintings, allow at least 6-12 months for the paint film to cure before application. Heavy layers of varnish on fresh oil paint can impede the oxidation process and result in failure. However a light layer may be applied as a temporary varnish when the oil paint film is touch-dry.

Oil Pastel Is Still Tacky
from Ventura, CA
Comments about Golden Archival Spray Varnish:
Just don't use on oil pastels they don't appear to cure. Fingers crossed that a fixative might help retrieve 2 art pieces.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Very good on acrylics or gouache; do not use on oil pastels!
from Land of Enchantment
I love this varnish for acrylics, but recently tried it on a gouache and oil pastel mixed media piece, and even though I had let it sit for over a month first, it turned the oil pastel portion into slimy goo that never did get better. I was able to salvage the piece with Sennelier pastel fixative ... will now have to try that one on gouache. I am mentioning this as it is labelled for oil paint. Two complaints: the cap is worse than ridiculous. Surely Golden could do better than this. And it's rather expensive (which makes me unforgiving about having to struggle with the cap). Otherwise, it's a great final varnish for acrylics and gouache.

This is the highest quality spray varnish i have tried. The satin finish is perfect, and reliably even. I will use this varnish again in the future.

Golden Spray Varnishes
from Detroit, MI
Golden's spray varnishes are the absolute best spray varnishes on the market. They are able to varnish more paintings than other brands and are superior in quality. They apply evenly with a sustained spray. The satin varnish has the perfect amount of matting agent in it, leaving a semi-gloss finish. The matte varnishes produce the least amount of "clouding" compared to other brands when applied in layers. Drying/curing time is surprisingly fast, too, being able to handle them after about 3 hours and after 24 hours they are fully cured. They are a bit expensive, but for a professional finish, they can't be beat.

I am a watercolor painter and it can be difficult to find the right varnish. I love this one. It has wonderful coverage and dries quickly. Also gives a nice shine.

One of my Abstract Painting's I used Golden Archival Gloss Spray Varnish on.
Good, but . . .
from San Jose, CA
Jan. 2017 I agree with a previous reviewer. The top is extremely difficult to get off. But, the big problem lately, after years of use, despite a lot of shaking, despite clearing the nozzle after use, the varnish leaves drops on the painted surface which cannot be fixed and, therefore, ruins a work of many hours. This must be corrected!!! because, otherwise, it is a great product.

First time customer
As a first time customer and acrylic painter, you can bet I shopped around before purchasing. I did my research and placed an order with Blick. The product is just fine, name brand and works as described. But this review is about Blick, and based on comparison shopping and search tools at Blick I will be placing another order this weekend. Thank you!
