Welcome to dickblick
This gelled alkyd resin painting medium creates transparent impasto of approximately a quarter inch thick. Holds marks and brush strokes. It does not dry as fast as most gel mediums, and it can be applied in multiple layers.

Great customer service from Dick Blick
from Garberville, CA.
This review is two-fold, an endorsement of the product ( G-Gel ) and recognition of Dick Blick's excellent customer service. As to the first, G-Gel is better for my purposes than the non-solvent gel because it's even more transparent and dries faster, and I don't experience any noticeable fumes or aroma from it. Addressing Dick Blick's service I'd like to say that they made good on a poorly manufactured item. My tube of G-Gel was one quarter air and had to be squeezed up from the bottom too far before any gel emerged. Normally I don't complain about glitches in shipping or minor problems with quality, chalking it up to imperfections of life. But this time I felt like saying something and wrote a note customer service about the issue. Dick Blick didn't question me or ask for photo proof of the defective gel tube but promptly shipped a brand new tube to me. I had not asked for a new tube, but they gave me one anyway. This sort of service is the reason why I shop and Dick Blick rather than other art supply companies. During my many years of buying Blick sold products I have had one or two other instances of being disappointed in either the quality of the product or a shipping issue and every time Dick Blick has replaced the item with a new one, no questions asked. Try getting that level of service from the other competitors in art supply,...I have tried and was dismissed in a cavalier abrupt manner. So congratulations Dick Blick for providing real service.

Galkyd Gel works very well for me
By Donn Granros
from Elk River, Mn
I like using Galkyd Gel. In truth it has become pretty much my standard medium. My painting process is a layered approach using transparencies and glazes. Galkyd Gel works well for me. It allows a faster drying rate and even though it's a gel medium works quite well for detailed painting also. I have experimented off and on with other similar products but for me this is by far the best.

Needs to be sold in Larger Quantities
from Tampa, FL
I used the galkyd gel with windsor and newton oils, and it is lovely for glazing, however the 5oz tube is almost gone already and I've only used it on one painting. It's a great product, just needs to come in a much bigger size.

Gel Medium is a hit
I used Gamblin Gel Alkyd Medium with water mixable oils. It greatly improved the "feel" of the paint, as water mixable oils can sometimes feel sticky. The gel slightly increased the transparency of the paint without reducing its body. Brushes were still able to be cleaned with soap and water. I used it 50/50 mix with the paint and titanium white was only slightly transparent. Transparent hues like Alizarin Crimson were like painting with liquid stained glass.
Great for palette knife painting
from Seattle, WA
I use this gel with water soluble oil paints of several brands and get great results putting thick paint on with the palette knife. It creates a nice shine on the finish so avoids the chalky look water soluble oils sometimes get. I mix it with the oils right from the tube and the gel adds to the flow of the paint depending on how much is mixed in.
