Had to make a custom size wrapped canvas (8'x4'), and this product was awesome to work with. Durable, beautiful end product/painting.

I use Fredrix watercolor canvas for a lot of my work-especially gallery-wrap. It gives clients an alternative to paper pieces that they would have added expense of framing. It's easy to work with and colors preform very well on surface. The product is consistent in quality unlike another brand that quality seems to differ from roll to roll.

Good Canvas - Poor Packaging by Fredrix
from Tempe, Az
I truly like this Fredrix canvas and I will not stop making paintings on Fredrix canvas! I have painted so many Fredrix canvas on board, I started buying it by the roll. Although, this is my third roll of Fredrix canvas. The first roll was good. The second roll was an inch short wavering in and out at the end and limiting canvas layout. The third roll had been pulled too tightly when put on the roll at the Fredrix factory and put several (3-4)"darts" 3" wide and 12" long into the canvas. When the roll was completed these "darts" were compressed and made permanent with multiple "flutes" into the canvas. This is not good. The gesso was permanently distorted as if fish scales. I paint "realism" requiring a perfectly smooth surface on which to paint. If I painted "Abstract Expressionism" maybe these "flutes" would be OK, maybe even interesting. But, I do not paint in this genre. I require a perfectly smooth canvas. Therefore, the "flutes" indicate poor quality in the Fredrix's packaging process. I needed to make these complaints, hopefully getting back to Fredricks. Nevertheless, I will continue purchasing Fredrix canvas. Please, Fredrix get your packaging department up to the speed of the quality of your canvas. Otherwise, this product would get five stars.

Beware if only using watercolors
from Delray Beach, Florida
If you intend using this canvas for watercolor pouring on a sheet, multiple washes and watercolor glazes, etc. without using other painting media, you will have great difficulty. This canvas should be renamed: Mixed media canvas because it is not at all like watercolor paper. It does not absorb. Yes you can lift the paint easily but try to layer on color on the next and you will continually lift paint that you don't want lifted. I ended up needing to add too many other mediums so that I could continue to glaze another layer over. I could not do a pouring because if the canvas is not on a stretcher the edges curls and the paint runs off. Yes, it is easy to stretch on a frame and yes it is great for frameless painting, but the 50" x 24" painting I used it for took me 2-3 times longer than it would have taken me on paper and the paper would have given me the multiple glazes to look through that gives watercolor the special quality it has. First try the watercolor canvas tablet before you invest in a roll. The price and the amount of trial and error you go through will be far better than the frustration of a large painting.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I LOVE THIS CANVAS!!!!
By Jan Martin McGuire
from Bartlesville, Oklahoma
I have been a professional wildlife artist for 30 years painting acrylic on masonite. My gallery in Africa asked me to try some canvas as it is easier to ship. I was reluctant but did some research and found this canvas which is specially designed for waterbased media. I LOVE IT!!! It let's me do all my techniques like a dream! As soon as I painted my first painting on it I was hooked. I have now totally switched to this canvas - I doubt I will ever paint on masonite again!!!!!

Very Nice. Definitely works.
from Fairmont, WV
This worked exactly how I needed it to. Wrapped stretchers and used mixed water media and got the effects I needed. I wish you could just buy or figure out the special formulated gesso ... I recommend canvas stretching help.. A little rough with pre-gessoed canvas and your hands...

This was my first time on watercolor canvas and I am very impressed. I gallery wrapped a 4'x4' frame with Fredrix watercolor canvas and it held up tight and performed well. Corners were easily able to wrap myself, canvas is strong and sturdy(used canvas pliers), accepts colors very well and is easy to wash out with water. Will purchase again.
