The Escoda Versatil synthetic Kolinsky brush is the modern-day alternative to natural Kolinsky.
Utilizing a carefully selected custom blend of uniquely patterned synthetic fibers, these short-handled or long-handled brushes achieve everything artists expect from the finest natural hair brush.
Available in a variety of shapes and sizes, the Versatil provides great water retention, a firm spring, and a sharp, fine point, plus enhanced durability and a more consistent shape over the life of the brush.
Rigger, Series 1549
The Rigger is a long, full-bellied, pointed round brush shape with large color capacity that was originally designed for painting the rigging of ships.
Brush sizes — The length and width of a brush of a given shape and size may vary by manufacturer as brush sizes are not standardized. Since fine art brushes are handmade, expect some variation even among brushes from within a single brush line.
Long and Short Handles — Long handles are recommended for easel style painting, while short handles are recommended for table-top painting where the artwork lies flat, especially with water media.

Comments about Escoda Versatil Round:
Since I ot into acrylics, I have ruined many brushes. But the Escoda brushes I bought in the very first batch (four years ago) have continued to work brilliantly. I bought a new lot this month when I was forced to throw some fuzzy brushes out, and I am very pleased with what I got. I hope and trust they will still be soldiering on four years hence. And longer!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I'm not really happy...

Comments about Escoda Versatil Brushes:
I am not sure what the problem is with my Escoda Versatil Round 12. It looked beautiful, and I assumed it was fine, but the Escoda Versatil flat that I also bought was soft and absorbent while the round was very stiff. I thought it might soften, but it stayed inflexible. Now, I just watched a "Craftsy" course with Shari Blaukopf and she has a Escoda Versatil Round 16 and it is obvious as I watch her paint that her brush is much, much softer and more absorbent than mine is. So I am pretty disappointed. Maybe they are just not as good as they used to be?
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Thank you for reaching out! It sounds like the sizing hasn't been washed out of the round. Escoda uses a gum sizing that's stiffer than what many brush makers use, and it needs to be removed before the brush can be used. Soaking the brush in warm tap water will soften the sizing enough that it can be washed out with a mild brush soap. Love this brush! It's my new favorite. Holds lots of paint, maintains sharp point, feels like an extension of your arm! I highly recommend it.

Escoda Versatil Rigger #10
from Perry, GA
Ordered the Escoda Versatil Rigger #10 after learning it was Angela Fehr's favorite (watercolor) brush. If you're not familiar with her, check out her Youtube videos. Her style is loose and so lovely. I've had a chance to use it now, and it just might become my favorite watercolor brush too!
Brush works the way a watercolor brush should.
Escoda brushes are the best
A Winner in my Opinion!
By Renata Wright Artist

Holds water and paint very well. Bristles are a good length and stay straight. Lovely to use. The best part is that it is a "cruelty-free" brush. No animals were harmed in the making of it.
Super brush and priced right
One of the best out there for me. I am hard on brushes and these last.

By Beth in Maine

Took an online course and this brush was recommended, it's the most expensive brush I've bought and I am really enjoying painting with it. The tip is wonderful and it's highly absorbent.
