Made in England, these high-quality pencils were designed specifically for the professional artist and designer. If you like the texture and blendability of Derwent Artists Pencils, but prefer a crisper, more precise drawing style, Derwent Studio Colored Pencils are for you!
All 72 pencils in the range are highly pigmented for maximum color purity. They share the same color core as Derwent Artists Colored Pencils, but have a slim, hexagonal barrel that's easy to grip. The 3.4 mm core sharpens to a fine point, producing a narrow color strip that's particularly well suited to detailed illustration work, such as botanical studies, architectural drawing, and graphic design.
Each hexagonal wooden pencil is strikingly finished in matte black with a color-coded end. Pencils are pre-sharpened. Studio sets are packaged in a handy hinge-lid tin box.

I think it would be okay to use.

Comments about Derwent Studio Colored Pencils:
The complete set has more colors to work with, when compared to Prismacolor Verithin. They both are hard wax pencils, good for detailing at the end of the painting.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought the metallic set of 12 colored pencils, I was dissapointed when I was making my color chart and gold and antique gold colors are almost the same shad and very scratchy on the paper. I really wanted a nice shade of gold to color a piece I'm making but with this pencils I won't finish it. The other shades of this tin are really soft, the yellow is more like a green yellow but I can work with that
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
So glad I decided to try these.
from Reno, NV
I don't care for colored pencils. This brand was suggested in an article I read by Artist John Howe. I decided to try them and was very surprised by the color tones. this is now my primary medium for sketching my ideas. Love them and wish I had bought the bigger set.
Everyone should own these colored pencils!

These colored pencils move in awesome strokes, I just love how the col out rs work together and highlight each other. These are a must when having any type of colored pencils.
Best color pencils, ever.

For detail, these pencils beat all others I have used. I was so happy to have found them. Fine line work is a chore with other pencils, with these, just perfect. My art work has been upgraded significantly by the use of these wonderful color pencils. I will be buying more, for sure.
Would buy only for a unique color, or 2
from Louisville, KY
I really expected the Derwent Studio line to be a much better pencil. The line has some very pretty colors, but the hard wax of the pencil is a turn-off. It does not go down smooth, like say, even the Blick Studio Artists brand pencil. So, for the higher cost of the Derwent Studio pencil that does not match its performance, I would opt to buy another higher grade pencil for the money and only buy an occasional Derwent Studio pencil for some different colors.
Merchant response: We're sorry to hear that these pencils were not as you expected. These pencils are indeed harder — their fine point and ability to make crisp lines make them a useful accompaniment to softer pencils. Chinese White is an excellent white!
from McKinney, TX
I use Chinese White for coverage that needs complete white tones without any underneath colors bleeding through. Whether I am using it over other colors or to bring out highlights on dark backgrounds, it has a remarkable clarity!

not very metallic
from fredericksburg, va
I was very disappointed because I thought the pencils would produce a much more metallic look. They are also very soft and the points break easily.

A nice lead that is not too brittle and a bit creamy
By David Miles Illustration
from Kalamazoo, MI
I got these pencils on the recommendation of a friend. I wanted to do some sketching and experiment with some different media in the process. I really like the results I am getting with these pencils and I'm ordering a slightly different shade to continue my experimentation :). Moohaha!
