Welcome to dickblick
Derwent Inktense Pencils are as versatile as watercolor pencils, but with a firmer texture that allows them to perform with the brilliant intensity of traditional pen-and-ink. These pencils are available in strong, vibrant colors which work beautifully on their own or can be mixed together to create rich, subtle tones. The pure, clean colors are perfect for bold expressive drawings, including fashion illustration, landscapes, greeting cards, and more.
Inktense pencils can be used dry for rich, intense color or washed out with a little water to create a vivid translucent effect. Once dry, the color is permanent and can be worked over with other media. Pencils are pre-sharpened.

Not What I Was Looking For

Comments about Derwent Inktense Pencils:
While they didn't work for the process I am currently using they are a nice product according to the artist that has them now. I use lots of glazes on my work and the Dr. Ph Martin Liquid Watercolors do the trick nicely.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The pencils are great. The
They have a strong smell when you first opened the metal thin, they colors are bright when you apply water on them. When I first used them was pretty difficult to remove the pencil strokes but after so many tries with different amount of water you can have a nice and smooth effect. Also, they're permanent if you blend all the pencil strokes if not they can move after being dry.Nice quality product I'm so happy with them, I use them on my coloring books
Ink in a pencil
from Russellville, Arkansas
I love these things. They're great as watersoluble pencils, can do the sketch-wash thing lovely - but if I need colored ink on the go, using a brush or scraping the point into a palette and adding water gives a great range of colored inks in a portable dry form. They're fun. I got them when they first came out. The colors are very strong, using water dilutes them to lovely gradients and unless there's undissolved dry material, they do dry waterproof. This makes them great for sections of water media paintings that I don't want moving, do want to glaze over with watercolor or different ink colors. They're also good on fabric, which a lot of friends have fun with. The sticks are great too but pencils are a little cleaner to handle, depends on what you're doing with them. For making ink the sticks may be more compact but a pencil's not going to make ink-smears in your pocket.

Lovely travel watercolor pencils!
from Addy, WA
We travel quite a bit, so I'm frequently sketching/painting as quickly as possible, even in the car - pencils are a superb solution to painting while moving or in a hurry, and Derwent's Inktense offer lovely pigmentation. I prefer them since I use stone paper or vellum sketching pads, and they offer buttery softness that doesn't indent the paper like a harder pencil, and I can add water and paint when I have time!
These are the best ink pencils and color blocks ever!
By Lorry the Quiltaholic

These Derwent Inktense pencils as well as the Derwent Inktense blocks of color are used in my quilting projects! I like to draw on fabric with the pencils and blend the ink into it with water. The blocks then give me more depth of color on top of what I used with the pencils. The best thing is that the ink is then permanent and it does not fade over time I don't even have to heat set. So many Wonderful, Brilliant colors, I just had to get the 72 pencils and well as the 72 blocks! Couldn't pass up on the 1/2 off price!

The Inktense pencils have opened a whole new world of watercolor for me. Fun!
from Marietta, Ga
I bought the 24 set of Derwent Inktense and 23 extra Inktense pencils of my choice. I was so excited about the purchase. I wanted to practice on a picture I copied, so I used Pan Pastels as a base, with inktense and Faber Castell colored pencils.
