Welcome to dickblick
Often used for jewelry making, this dark-colored steel wire has been annealed to make it easier to work with and less likely to break while being manipulated.
Soft and flexible, the wire is self-tying and stays in place when wrapped around itself.
Note — The finer the wire, the larger the gauge.

Comments about Dark Annealed Wire:
This wire was used in a kiln to keep glazed earrings apart -- they were hung on the wire. It completely disintegrated, leaving the earrings permanently fused to one of the bases.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have used this wire with my students in my Sculpture class several times with wonderful results. The wire is sturdy enough to create stable sculptures, but flexible enough for the students to easily change the shape of the line and add detail. #sweepstakes

18 gauge wire
from Madison, WI
great for wire sculpture. Using it in a 3D Design class. Dark, flexible, strong.
Not used yet--appears to be exactly what I need

I have not used it, so cannot be specific. It's steel wire--I can't imagine it not being exactly as expected. It was a good price, and it was delivered quickly.
Pleased with product. Displeased with packaging.
Really liked the product. Easy to work with in wire sculpture. Packaged so badly the mail person had to warn me to hold the bottom or the heavy spool might fall on my foot.

We needed dark thin wire for a shadowbox framing job that had antique items to be attached. They were dark metal.
I will buy more!
This wire is perfect for making jewelry! Love the dark color.
Just the right gauge of wire !!

18 gauge wire ... not too exciting in a 5-lb spool, but comes alive! when twisted & wound around beads, buttons, bells, etc and formed into flowers to hang & adorn. 19 gauge can be found in every hardware store & for most folks purposes it would be fine, however I really appreciated finding this size of wire on line @ Dick Blick to use for my projects. I also twist the wire into decorative "names" that I give to friends for new babies, death of loved ones, etc. I am always searching for wire in different materials & thicknesses, but this particular wire is my preference. Maybe even one day I'll make a profit from my baubles!

Excellent Wire for Adding Contrast
from San Angelo, TX
The wire's anti rust application will rub off onto one's hands while sculpting, but cleans up well. I used the wire to add contrast to a wire sculpture and it helped me to achieve a fantastic result. Very nice.
