Perfect for Us
By Preschool Work
from Nashville, TN
We use this large sketch pad as a "journey book" in our preschool program. Teacher and children jot down ideas, sketches, etc. concerning their day and the investigations they are engaged in. For instance, the four year old class is studying insects and several of the children have drawn potential rolly polly habitats. The book can be used on the floor or a low table and because the paper is heavy, the children can handle it without tears.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Drawing books for kids
I use the books in the classroom to help students understand math concepts (shapes, angles, measurement). The are very engaged.
Canson DRAWING paper not same as Canson DRAWING paper !!
from New Orleans
Canson has two DIFFERENT papers which they label too similarly. Covers for BOTH pads indicate prominently "Drawing / Dessin / Dibujo" and "artist series" and other identical statements, are predominantly black with ocher trim, match in details such as sample artwork (which changes, size by size, anyway), typefaces, layout, all other terminology. But the papers inside the pads are DIFFERENT TEXTURES and you probably wouldn't guess it from the labeling. 1. Paper 1 is marked "1557" (a line of Canson products named after the year they were founded) colored "Classic Cream" at 90 lbs (147 g) with "smooth" surface of "medium texture". 2. Paper 2 is "Mi-Teintes" and colored simply "cream", not "classic cream" and is 98 lb (160 g); so I figured it was the same. But 2 has "lighter texture for soft pencil on one side; heavy texture for pastel and other broad media on other" in the fine print. I missed this distinction when ordering. I wanted more of 2, the paper with heavier texture on one side, but I received pads of 1, medium "smooth" texture on both sides. It's my mistake, to fail to double-check the fine print, absent which I had understood, on the basis of Canson's EXTREMELY similar labeling, that I would be getting something with different characteristics from what I got. I feel this is misleading of Canson, how one line can too easily be mistaken for the other. The finest print is the only place where a buyer might accidentally identify different textures, and only if he knew he should distrust and therefore seek out fine print in order to double-check. A picture of the nearly identical covers is attached. I can't blame Blick (they don't AFAIK sell the paper that I DID want; therefore, their staff also has no reason to be on guard against any difference, and would be equally as misled as I). (Also, the French word "creme" displays an accent -aigu- upwards over the initial letter "e" on one cover but an accent -grave- downwards on the other cover! Whoops!) I'm not disappointed with Blick, but rather I'm STUNNED at Canson. Please look at the picture yourself, I hope you agree. But if not, I'm sorry I have responded in a manner you might consider excessive. Still, I hope future buyers will be well informed and therefore more on guard. Thanks for your time.

Great product. Wish there was a hardcover 60 pages or more.
I purchased 4 of these since there are not so many pages. My daughter's favorite is the hardcover with many pages. The hardcover makes it easy to take as a sketch book when you are drawing on your lap. Then it doesn't bend. Thanks for a great product. Look forward to seeing more choices.

WAY BETTER than strathmore 400
from Milestone Mark, ZU
Good weight at 90 lb., much better than Strathmore 400.
from Sarasota, FL
Purchased this for fine, pencil drawings. The paper is a little smoother than the Strathmore and a little more cream color. Very nice indeed.
it works well
from Shasta Lake, California
Works well with charcoal and graphite pencils

This is my favorite sketchbook
By Gonzo Bean
from Pawleys Island
This is an excellent sketchbook. I like the 11x14 size the best and prefer the top wire binding. The color is very nice--a soft cream rather than stark white. Not all my sketches work out, but sometimes they do and I know they're on a good acid free paper.

My favorite sketchbook
After trying many different sketch books, this is the one I keep returning to this one. A lot of times a sketch doesn't work out but when it does you know it's on acid free paper, so it won't disintegrate
