Intended for the most demanding professional, Blick Premier Heavyweight Cotton Canvas is more stable and durable than lighter-weight canvas, so it stands up well to heavier paint applications.
We make these canvases using top-grade, archival-quality 100% cotton that's triple-primed with acid-free acrylic gesso to reach a hefty 20 oz finished weight. The canvas is then hand-stretched and back-stapled onto heavy-duty, kiln-dried stretcher bars made from solid pine. Blanket-fold corners assure ease of re-stretching.
The frame is constructed with tenon corners for added strength, and eight keys are included for minor adjustments to the frame over time. Cross-bracing on the larger sizes provides extra stability under tension. Braces are 1-1/2" (37 mm) wide.
Oversize Canvas Shipping — Canvas larger than 30" × 40" does not qualify for our free shipping offer. For actual shipping charges call 800-447-8192.
Stretched Canvas Care — Because they are made of natural materials, changes in temperature and humidity may cause stretched canvases to shift or adjust over time. To enhance stability, store them vertically in a climate-controlled space.

Well Made and Great Price
from Nevada City, CA
These pre-stretched canvases are very well-made, very sturdy materials and well-gessoed. I add an extra coat of gesso for peace of mind and familiar working surface, and I am good to go, without all the work, mess and stress of making my own. These canvases are very, very close to what I can make myself, and at a much better price. Thank you, Blick
You Want It Fast?

I was looking at my giant blank wall in my new town house and decided I needed a really big canvas. Dick had a fabulous selection -- like more giant sizes than the Jolly Green Giant could shake a stick at. SO.. I decided on a rather large canvas which was shipped and rec'd in less than a week. My creative itch was scratched in a very timely fashion, and I saved a lot of beans too. Quality is great. Nice and heavy!

Great weight, canvas is tightly stretched, and texture is perfect.
Good price but not properly stretched
By Carlos Printe
from Coral Springs, FL
I have ordered a lot of these.I have noticed that the smaller ones, less than 36 inches long, are properly stretched. However the bigger ones, 36x36 inches and 48x48 inches, are very loose.I believe it's a manufacturing defect because the frames are very sturdy and the canvas is heavy. The tension is just very low. So I believe they don't stretch them properly at the plant. This is a shame because one has to unstaple them and restretch them. So, a good price, but factor in that you have to spend time restretching the canvas and then it's not that good of a value.Smaller sizes have always been OK. But on larger sizes you are better off making your own frame with the bars and the canvas roll. Even stretching by hand I am able to stretch their canvases 2 inches more than they do.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your candid comments. As with many natural materials, canvas can absorb and release moisture with changes in relative humidity, and this affects canvas tension. Essentially, a canvas that is properly stretched at the factory may loosen in our warehouse, on a shipping truck, or even in your studio. This is why these canvases are "keyable", and the included keys can be used to tighten the canvas so you don't need to restretch to adjust the tension. Good bang for the buck, with occasional minor issues
from Ohio based artist
The extra heavy weight of these canvasses is well suited for the style and techniques I use. The larger sizes have T-bracing to maintain the straightness of the rails. I have used these Blick Premier for several years now and sometimes I will have to unstaple and refold one or two corners on a canvas. I recently had a 36x60 canvas in which the finger jointed stretcher was not glued at all (must have been missed in the manufacturing process). This required quite a bit more work to unstaple the canvas, remove, glue and reinstall the stretcher, restretch and restaple the canvas. Not a huge deal if you are well versed in building and stretching your own canvasses, but still an investment in time and effort that would be better spent in the creative process. I emailed Blick customer service with pictures and, to their credit they sent me a customer loyalty certificate for my next purchase. I was at least confident enough to order another batch of nine 36x48 canvasses. As best as I can tell without unwrapping each individual canvas, they seem to be good.As a side note, it is standard procedure for me after unwrapping a new canvas to sand and clean it and apply a fresh topcoat of Golden Gesso. This way I'm assured a smooth archival foundation for my work. I do this with any and all canvasses (except ones which I have built and stretched myself). I'm pretty particular about the materials I use and though I'm not a fan of finger jointed wood in the stretchers and encounter problems with poorly folded corners, these are generally a good value. Bottom line, I will continue using these premier canvasses. I gave an average rating because they didn't provide a "good" rating (something in between really nice and average).Another side note: You will find the occasional minor irregularity in the cotton canvas weave. So if you're style demands a perfect surface you may want to continue stretching your own.

I needed a solid canvas for a commissioned piece, and ordered this online. It arrived in great shape, and is a fantastic canvas. It fit my needs and was very receptive to the paint. I would buy it again!
