These traditional lettering brushes are crafted to stand up to the rigors of classroom use with ink and sign paint. They are effective for painting on glass and other smooth surfaces.
Our quill brush has a plastic ferrule and a natural-shaped tip with a short natural wooden handle.

Comments about Blick Grey Squirrel Quill:
Glad to still be able to purchase quality lettering quills in an age where most everything graphically done is digital and computerized.

I've bought brushes and other sign supplies from Blick for over 30 years and I was disappointed to find that this is the only Grey Quill now available. I had excellent results with the 450, 451P and 52301 series quills, and with the Series 143 Greys so I was hopeful these would at least be serviceable. Definitely not the case. After this experience I'm sad to say I'm probably done with this company. I understand that things change over the years but it appears Blick no longer cares to cater to our dying art. Farewell old friend.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great Quill for Lettering
By The Sign Lady
from Urbana, MD
This brush is great not only for lettering but is great for painting signs and logos. It offers great control and a nice sharp edge but can still hold a good amount of paint. It's a great "find" for me because these types of brushes are not very easy to find online.
Haven't used it yet!

These brushes require a lot of practice to get the best and to understand what they want to do.

I have been lettering signs professionally for 30 years now. I can state that this is easily one of THE WORST brushes I have ever attempted to paint with. The tips are dry, it has no suppleness to it at all. A simple casual script that should have taken me 15 minutes took me an hour! In order to loadthe sides well enough to paint a stroke, you have to overload this, causing sags and drips. Iwas so mad trying to use this today that I threw it away! Little to no snap.

Poor excuse for a sign lettering quill
By The Mad Signtist

I have bought lettering quills from you in the past, series 450.They were great and 12 years later still use them. These brushes are coarse, don't pallette out to an edge, don't pull a straight line, won't hold paint, and anything I can think of that a lettering quill is supposed to do. I am VERY disapointed and have returned them. I have over 35 years experience and I know what I'm talking about. I have resolved myself to pay 3-4 times the amount to purchase quality French quills.Thank You
